Syracuse will continue to start senior Drew Allen at QB, but sophomore Terrel Hunt is expected to see playing time.
Allen has completed 43 of 78 attempts for 468 yards, one touchdown, and six interceptions thus far this season. Obviously those aren't Ryan Nassib type numbers, and Syracuse coaches likely want Allen to protect the football better. The Orange take on Wagner this weekend. Wed, Sep 11, 2013 09:46:00 AM

Syracuse quarterbacks coach Tim Lester said after Saturday's scrimmage that senior Drew Allen and sophomore Terrel Hunt are tied atop the quarterback depth chart.

Allen (6-5, 226) graduated from Oklahoma and transferred to Syracuse this summer for his final season of eligibility. He completed 18 of 30 passes for 160 yards over limited playing time for the Sooners the last three seasons. Hunt (6-feet-3, 219 pounds) appeared on special teams during the USC game last season. Allen has the edge in size, arm strength and passing ability, while Hunt has the clear advantage in athleticism. Syracuse doesn't have much time to tab Ryan Nassib's replacement. The Orange opens its season on Aug. 31 against Penn State at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

7-on-7 drills will be a "paramount" in determining Syracuse's starting QB for the 2013 season, according to beat writer Michael Cohen.

This could directly affect Oklahoma transfer Drew Allen's chances, since he is joining a new team, with a new scheme, and new receivers. "Allen... must travel halfway across the country, earn the respect of his teammates, learn the playbook and build chemistry with his wide receivers," Michael Cohen writes. "Not to mention he must outperform five other quarterbacks that will be on the roster by the time fall camp gets underway."

Former Oklahoma senior QB Drew Allen has transferred to Syracuse.

Since Allen will graduate this spring, he will be eligible to play for the Orange in 2013. First-year coach Scott Shafer is replacing Doug Marrone and will need to find a fill-in for Ryan Nassib. According to Allen, the Orange coaching staff made no promises regarding the competition.

Oklahoma junior Drew Allen will pursue a transfer to a different program after losing out to Blake Bell for the starting QB duties.

Allen will graduate in May, therefore he will not have to sit out a year if he transfers to an FBS or FCS level program. Prior to the 2011 season, Bell and Allen were neck and neck for backup quarterback duties, but the Belldozer's running abilities has given him the clear edge since.

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said sophomore Drew Allen has a slight edge on Blake Bell as the backup quarterback.

If there was any question as to how the battle to backup Heisman candidate Landry Jones was unfolding, then look no futher than Monday's updated depth chart. It is there that the No. 2 QB is listed as either "Allen or Bell." Allen threw 14 passes as Jones' backup last season. Bell is a redshirt freshman.
