Ex-NFL scout Russ Lande lists Penn State QB Matt McGloin as one player who struggled during the opening practice of the Texas versus Nation all star game.
"Lacking ideal size, McGloin does not have the arm strength to make all the NFL throws and his intermediate/long passes tend to hang/flutter," Lande writes. "His footwork looked choppy and mechanical, which led to his delivery/release being slow and deliberate." McGloin was not an overly productive player at Penn State but is comfortable working from center. Wed, Jan 30, 2013 01:38:00 PM

Penn State senior QB Matt McGloin threw for 397 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception on 22-of-32 attempts Saturday against Indiana.

McGloin has looked extremely composed this season and we believe he will get a shot to make an NFL team's practice squad next year. Head coach Bill O'Brien has done wonders with his game.

Penn State senior QB Matt McGloin was taken to the locker room in the second quarter after being hit twice on his throwing arm.

McGloin took a shot to his arm and was down for some time. He then looked fine on the sideline and returned to the game but ended up taking another hit. Cameras showed the senior exiting the field with a trainer but no updates have been given. He later returned to the game in the third quarter.

Matt McGloin named Penn State’s starting quarterback.

No surprise here as McGloin clearly moved ahead of Rob Bolden in both 2010 and 2011. While McGloin was far from stellar in the Nittany Lions’ spring game, he had the better overall performance in practices and scrimmages. Paul Jones, who was academically ineligible his first two years in Happy Valley, is No. 2 ahead of Rob Bolden. Jones has yet to appear in a game. McGloin, who will be a senior next season, hs thrown for 3,119 yards with 22 touchdowns and 14 INTs in his career.

Matt McGloin once again could be the No. 1 quarterback.

You’d be hard pressed to remember another quarterback that has spent as much time as the No. 1 quarterback as McGloin, yet has to continue to win the job. This may finally be the year McGloin, who will be a senior next season, is the starter heading into the opening game. A good sign toward making this a reality is that he took majority of the first-team snaps this spring. Rob Bolden and Paul Jones are in the mix. Bolden was been the opening-game starter the last two years, but he struggled this spring. Jones has not thrown a pass in two seasons with the Nittany Lions.

Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin suffered a seizure and possibly a concussion during a post-practice scuffle with receiver Curtis Drake.

Amid all the problems in State College that enveloped the football program and university, one of the things that appeared to continue to play out with some degree of normalcy was the cohesiveness of the players. While scuffles are not uncommon, this one involved a starting quarterback that suffered a seizure and possible concussion.

Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin has officially been named the starter for this Saturday's game against Ohio State.

The definitive answer at quarterback is the first in a long time for the Nittany Lions. Usually the starter is listed as either McGloin or Rob Bolden, but it was McGloin who played the whole game against Nebraska last week. The junior has thrown for 1,386 yards this season with seven touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Interim head coach Tom Bradley did say that he would continue to monitor the position on a week-to-week basis.

Father of Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin says son was "saddened" by Joe Paterno’s retirement and that the younger McGloin "…must rally the team…"

While not officially, McGloin has clearly taken over as the team’s No. 1 quarterback in recent weeks. That means much of the focus regardless of any events that have taken place this week was going to be on his performance against Nebraska. Now, with emotions off the charts in what is not a Happy Valley, McGloin’s father revealed part of a conversation he had with his son regarding what will be – unless the PSU Board of Trustees pulls the plug prior to Saturday’s game – Joe Paterno’s final game at Beaver Stadium.

Matt McGloin played the whole game at QB for Penn State despite coach Joe Paterno’s stated reluctance to change the two-man rotation.

Last Tuesday, Paterno spoke in terms of maintaining a rotation that had Rob Bolden starting with McGloin coming off the bench. But it was McGloin who started against Northwestern on Saturday – and he never came out. Penn State got the offense going in the opening half and McGloin remained at the controls throughout and finished 17-of-26 for 192 yards and 2/0. In other words, McGloin is clearly the guy now in Happy Valley.

Penn State coach Joe Paterno will again use both Matt McGloin and Robert Bolden at quarterback this week against Alabama.

Of the two, McGloin was the most effective against Indiana State. Alas, the Nittany Lions did not need to throw much against the FCS Sycamores. Furthermore, Alabama obviously is a different challenge. A solid outing by either QB could settle who will be No. 1 at least short term. Then again, JoePa has no problem playing both Bolden and McGloin. It is a situation that does not seem to bother the rest of the team. At least not publicly.
