Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly announced that senior Tommy Rees will be his starting QB.
"I live in the present, and in the present, we have Tommy Rees," Kelly said. "We have Tommy Rees, who is an established player, and he will be our starter. We think Andrew Hendrix and Malik Zaire can contribute, but Tommy will be our starter." Just like last season, expect to see multiple signal callers under center for the Irish. Jun 6 - 4:17 PM

Notre Dame junior Tommy Rees will start at QB against BYU on Saturday, in place of sophomore Everett Golson.

Rees has done well in the late game role, which led head coach Brian Kelly to call him the "closer". Golson suffered a concussion last week but was cleared to practice and play Saturday. However, coupled with the sophomore's turnovers and inexperience, it isn't overly surprising that Rees is drawing the start.

Notre Dame announced that junior QB Tommy Rees has been suspended for the team's season opener.

The Irish are scheduled to face off against Navy on September 1 in Dublin, Ireland. The suspension, which was handed down by head coach Brian Kelly, likely stems from Rees' offseason misdemeanor charges that resulted from a bar fight in South Bend. Sophomore Everett Golson and junior Andrew Hendrix are expected to compete for the starting spot until Rees returns. Junior linebacker Carlo Calabrese was also suspended for the first game for his involvement in the incident.

Notre Dame quarterback Tommy Rees was arrested Thursday morning on multiple charges, including one felony. Linebacker Carlo Calabrese was also arrested.

Public intoxication and battery to an officer, which is a felony, are among the charges against Rees. The quarterback, who will be a junior during the 2012 season, was in a battle this spring for the starting job with Andrew Hendrix, Everett Golson and Gunner Kiel. Rees started 12 games last season and threw for 2,871 yards and 20 TDs.

Notre Dame quarterback Tommy Rees went 30-for-37 with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the team's 45-21 win over Maryland.

Rees had a very solid game, hitting a season-best 81.1 percent of his passes and throwing no picks for the first time in his last four games. The sophomore's touchdown throws of 34 and 19 yards helped lead the Irish to the win at FedEx Field. Rees' 296 yards are tied for the second-most of the season, and the performance pushes his season totals to 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Notre Dame quarterback Tommy Rees is developing into a leader – off the field.

The sophomore is not only getting the job on the field done since taking over for Dayne Crist midway through the season-opener against USF. Sure, he has completed two-thirds of his passes for close to 2,000 yards and 15 TDs. Rees is also becoming a leader in that he is talking it up with the offense, keeping the confidence level high and making sure everybody is comfortable with their assignments.

Notre Dame quarterback Tommy Rees threw 3 TD passes, all in the first quarter, during a 59-33 win over Air Force.

Rees' three TDs were to three different receivers during the first-quarter flurry, the first being 34 yards to Michael Floyd. The sophomore was 23-of-32 for 261 yards and no picks. He has 13 touchdown passes on the season.

Tommy Rees has all of head coach Brian Kelly's confidence as starting QB for the Irish going forward.

"He's developing that scar tissue that you need to play quarterback [for] me as well, and that is he's constantly being challenged to be better," said Kelly. "He's taken very well to that. I think all of our players have a great trust in him." Rees bounced back from a shaky outing against Pittsburgh with a solid 3 TD performance against Purdue. Kelly said that even during that Pittsburgh game, he never considered pulling Rees in favor of once-starter Dayne Crist.

Notre Dame QB Tommy Rees completed 24-of-41 passes for 216 yards and one touchdown in Norte Dame's 15-12 win at Pittsburgh.

Rees was highly ineffective through three quarters but redeemed himself late in the fourth, going 8-of-8 for 74 yards on the final drive with a six yard score to Tyler Eifert. Despite the winning effort Rees is officially on notice going forward, as senior QB Dayne Crist will continue to push for playing time.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly announced Tuesday that sophomore quarterback Tommy Rees will start Saturday night at Michigan.

It truly was a tale of two halves at least as far as Notre Dame’s quarterback play was concerned during Saturday’s loss to South Florida. Rees threw for 296 yards and 2 TDs in the second half after Dayne Crist and the Irish left the field trailing 16-0 following a fumbling and bumbling opening half. Rees is 4-0 as a starter and gets a chance to up that mark in Ann Arbor in the first-ever night game at the Big House.
