Utah State senior QB Chuckie Keeton will miss Saturday's game against Arkansas State.
Keeton re-injured his left knee against Wake Forest and was forced out of the second half. Head coach Matt Wells did say Keeton did not re-tear his ACL, but the goal is not to rush him along. "Chuckie is fine from a health standpoint," Wells declared. "The ACL is all intact; everything's good. But it's banged up, guys, and that's the bottom line." Utah State has a bye following this matchup, so Keeton will be evaluated at that time. He does not look like the same player this season. Sep 16 - 9:43 AM

Utah State senior QB Chuckie Keeton re-injured his left knee and was forced out of the second half of the school's 36-24 win over Wake Forest.

Keeton tore ligaments in the same knee last year. He was on crutches for a period of time on the sideline but tossed them aside later on. Keeton showed plenty of ability prior to the injury last year, but he has looked sluggish since. Utah State's staff will know more about the injury on Sunday.

Utah State senior QB Chuckie Keeton's "ball placement was erratic and the speed of Tennessee's defense appeared too much at times" which could hurt Keeton's draft stock, according to CBS Sports' Dane Brugler.

"His arm was lively with a snap release and enough zip to deliver the ball to all levels of the field, but his ball placement was erratic and the speed of Tennessee's defense appeared too much at times," Brugler wrote. The 6-foot-1, 200 pound Keeton played in six games last season, as he tore his ACL and MCL in his left knee. While Brugler believes Keeton "will almost surely improve down the stretch with more reps" he missed an opportunity to "impress scouts against a SEC defense in a hostile environment." Keeton completed 18 of 35 of his passes for 144 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions, adding in 12 yards rushing on eight carries.

NFL scouts have been "intrigued" by Utah State senior QB Chuckie Keeton, according to CBS Sports' Dane Brugler.

"Keeton isn't physically imposing with a below average build and little growth potential, but most of the other boxes receive checks with a strong arm, quick feet and the unrelenting attitude needed for the quarterback position. His fiery, competitive on-field demeanor coupled with his up-beat, positive character off the field will be a hit during NFL interviews," Brugler wrote. The 6-foot-1, 200 pound Keeton only managed to play in six games in 2013, tearing his ACL and MCL in his left knee. Before getting injured, he completed almost 70 percent of his passes with an 18/2 TD/INT ratio. As of now, the coaching staff still doesn't know when Keeton will be ready to go, as he missed all of spring practice. The Aggies are crossing their fingers to have their play maker under center for the season opener.

Utah State senior QB Chuckie Keeton received a "free agent" preseason grade from draft insider Tony Pauline.

Keeton ranks behind his fellow MWC quarterbacks, namely Colorado State's Garret Grayson (fourth-round), Nevada's Cody Fajardo (sixth-round). We think Keeton can really emerge this season, as his passing charts were impressive. We'd like to see him be forced to handle the pocket more often, but that is unlikely. Keeton only played in six games last season before tearing the ACL and MCL in his left knee.

NFL scouts are "touting" Utah State senior QB Chuckie Keeton as a "sleeper candidate to watch in the fall," according to's Bucky Brooks.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Keeton completed almost 70 percent of his passes with an 18/2 TD/INT ratio before his junior campaign was truncated by an ACL injury. "Keeton displayed the mobility and elusiveness to flee the pocket under duress, while maintaining the awareness, poise and savvy to make pinpoint throws down the field," Brooks wrote. "With NFL teams becoming increasingly comfortable with a run-pass threat in the backfield, Keeton's skills as a mobile playmaker fit the mold of the 'new school' quarterback that's taking over the league." According to the analyst, scouts will be watching closely this year to make a determination if Keaton's game -- which has been heavily imbued by tricks of the Aggies' spread scheme such bubble screen, pop passes and other quick-rhythm throws -- can translate to the next level. This is a player helped by Russell Wilson's success, and he'll be aided further if Johnny Manziel has a successful transition to the pros.

Utah State junior QB Chuckie Keeton will miss the remainder of the season due to a severe knee injury suffered on Friday night.

Keeton specifically suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee. It is a disappointing injury, since Keeton was one of the more exciting players in college football. He will still have a year to impress scouts next season.

Utah State junior QB Chuckie Keeton exited Friday's game against BYU with a potentially serious left leg injury.

Keeton was helped to the sideline by the training staff and teammates but was putting little to no weight on his left leg. The quarterback's left knee apparently bent awkwardly on a running play. Keeton immediately grabbed the injury and lost the football along the way. We are crossing our fingers for positive news.

Utah State junior QB Chuckie Keeton completed 29 of 42 attempts for 260 yards and three touchdowns in a 40-12 win over San Jose State.

Keeton added a touchdown on the ground along with 52 yards. San jose State had no answer defensively for much of this contest, struggling with the Aggies' tempo. We'd like to see Keeton test the downfield sections of the field more often, but his game is built on decisive throws in the short to intermediate levels.

Utah State QB Chuckie Keeton completed 21 of 39 attempts for 179 yards and two touchdowns in a 17-14 loss to USC.

As expected, the Trojans focused on defending the short to intermediate sections of the field, asking Keeton to beat them vertically. The Utah State passer made a handful of nice throws, but others lacked placement. It was a good effort.

USC head coach Lane Kiffin compared Utah State junior QB Chuckie Keeton to Russell Wilson.

"You can't tackle him, he runs around and makes every throw, he doesn't seem to get rattled and he plays great in big games," Kiffin said. "This is a really special player." Keeton doesn't quite have the same poise in the pocket as Wilson, especially in the face of pressure, but he certainly has mobility and a strong arm. Expect the Trojans to force Keeton to test downfield.

Utah State junior QB Chuckie Keeton completed 32 of 40 attempts for 360 yards, five touchdowns, and an interception against Air Force.

Keeton added eight carries for 77 yards in this contest. Keeton is unlikely to enter May's draft, but he'll create buzz this offseason at different passing academies. He has the tools that will likely earn a draftable grade.

Utah State junior QB Chuckie Keeton completed 31 of 40 attempts for 314 yards and two touchdowns against Utah on Saturday.

Keeton added 85 rushing yards and a touchdowns to his stat line. Utah State's missed extra point cost them in this game, and Keeton appeared a bit reckless at times, but he has talent that will attract NFL evaluators.

Former NFL scout John Middlekauff talked to coaches who raved about Utah State junior QB Chuckie Keeton.

Keeton started eight games as a freshman and all 13 in 2012, totaling 4,573 passing yards and 50 total touchdowns on a 65.6 average completion percentage. The Aggie can make things happen on the ground as well. Middlekauff noted the same coaches think Keeton could be the best player no one is talking about.

Utah State quarterback Chuckie Keeton was walking and cleared to leave a Honolulu hospital on Sunday night after he suffered what was described as a spinal stinger during Saturday’s game.

The freshman won the starting QB job in fall camp and debuted in the opener with a nice effort in a close loss to Auburn. The Aggies go to the air generally 20-25 times per game with Keeton completing 61 percent with 11 TDs and only 2 interceptions. Keeton did not throw a pick in his first six games. He also has 283 yards rushing and 4 TDs.
