Army coach Rich Ellerson said quarterback Trent Steelman should start Saturday against Navy.
Steelman has been hobbled most of this season, including a right leg injury suffered early in the Black Knights’ last game at Temple on Nov. 19. He had missed the previous three games with an ankle ailment, but the junior has had plenty of time to heal before facing the Middies. Steelman has rushed for 583 yards and 11 TDs. Army quarterback Trent Steelman (right leg) was limited to two plays Saturday at Temple, but should be ready to play against Navy on Dec. 10.

A high left ankle sprain sidelined Steelman for three games prior to the Temple contest. Then, during Army’s first series Saturday, Steelman injured his right leg. With three weeks before the annual rivalry with Navy, there is plenty of time for Steelman to heal up and prepare. Angel Santiago, a freshman who made his first start against Rutgers last week, and senior Max Jenkins, who started the other two games Steelman missed, both played against the Owls.

Army quarterback Trent Steelman will miss Saturday’s game against Fordham with a high ankle sprain, snapping his streak of 32 consecutive starts.

The junior had started every game of his college career dating to the 2009 opener. He suffered the injury last week at Vanderbilt and coach Rich Ellerson says the QB is week-to-week. Running the option, Steelman has 576 yards rushing (4.9 ypc), 11 TDs and has also thrown for two scores. He reached 2,000-career rushing yards last week.

Army junior quarterback Trent Steelman rushed for a career-high 157 yards with 3 TDs in a tough loss to San Diego State.

Steelman led a triple-option attack that ground out 403 yards against the Aztecs in a 23-20 defeat. He left the field twice in the final quarter, the second time with about two minutes remaining while favoring the area below his right shoulder. Coach Rich Ellerson would not comment on the injury. As for his effort, Steelman said: "In the triple-option, we take pride in what we do without the ball. I was pleased with how we reacted to the adjustments they made on defense."
