Ole Miss starting junior RB Jeff Scott will likely miss the team's opener against Central Arkansas because of a back issue.
Scott battled the back issues throughout camp and head coach Hugh Freeze admitted that he is not "real confident" the junior will be able to play on Saturday. In 2011, Scott managed 529 rushing yards and six touchdowns and was expected to be the Rebels most consistent offensive weapon. Thu, Aug 30, 2012 10:33:00 AM

Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt suspended RB Jeff Scott along with QB Randall Mackey at least one game for violation of teams rules.

Scott is the team’s leading rusher with 529 yards, though he has only 230 in six games against SEC opponents. Scott also returns punts (6.9 avg, 1 TD) and kicks (17.7). Brandon Bolden, who has had more carries of late, will likely see even more action with Scott out. The Rebels host LSU on Saturday and finish their season with the Egg Bowl at Mississippi State next week.

Diminutive Ole Miss running back Jeff Scott has come up big in the running game.

He stands only 5-7 and weighs 175 soaking wet, yet Scott has been key to the Rebels' running game since Brandon Bolden was sidelined by an ankle injury. Scott, who averaged an eye-opening 6.5 ypc in limited time last season, ran for 138 yards and 2 TDs last week against Fresno State.

Ole Miss’ Jeff Scott may not be the "featured" running back much longer, but he will certainly be featured.

The sophomore was the No. 1 running back against Eastern Illinois, whom he lit up for 118 yards and 3 TDs on 16 carries. He scored two of his rushing touchdowns and returned a punt 67 yards for a score – all in the opening quarter. Coach Houston Nutt will see to it Scott handles the ball in the SEC opener against Vandy, though maybe not as much in what is a busy backfield.
