Texas junior Case McCoy will start at QB against Kansas State Saturday.

Normal starter David Ash will be replaced due to a rib injury. He could still play since he is listed as questionable, but McCoy's start may signal a decision. The Longhorns third string quarterback will be punter Alex King.

Texas quarterback Case McCoy threw for 356 yards and 3 touchdowns, but turned the ball over 5 times in a 48-24 loss to Baylor.

McCoy had an outstanding stretch bridging the first and second quarters when he led the Longhorns to 21 straight points to pull ahead by seven after trailing 14-0. Texas would not find the end zone again. McCoy was picked four times and he fumbled once in a game in which his final line was: 24-of-39, 356 yards and 3/4.

Case McCoy did not have impressive numbers Thanksgiving night against Texas A&M, but his calm in the late game-winning drive is something coach Mack Brown would like to see his QB carry over into Saturday’s game at Baylor.

McCoy was only 16-of-27 for 110 yards – but no interceptions. McCoy had a big run during the decisive drive and otherwise kept everything together in the huddle in hostile territory. Coach Mack Brown said that late-game success could provide a nice boost of confidence heading into Saturday’s game at Baylor. McCoy is 64-of-105 for 604 yards and 4 TDs this season. He has yet to throw in interception.

Texas quarterback Case McCoy is listed as the team's starter for this week's game against Baylor.

This is the first time all year coach Mack Brown has outright listed McCoy as the No. 1, usually naming both McCoy and David Ash co-starters each week. McCoy got the start last week against Texas A&M and led the Longhorns on a game-winning drive that resulted in the last-second field goal. The sophomore's numbers were not staggering in that game, hitting 16 of 27 passes for only 110 yards. But Brown liked enough of what he saw to give McCoy another chance to lead the team at Baylor this week.

Many Texas fans would love to see Case McCoy be the No. 1 QB, but coach Mack Brown says the job is open.

The Longhorns have a bye this week and it's unlikely two weeks worth of practice prior to next Saturday's game against Kansas will settle whether McCoy or David Ash is in the lead. Ash took every snap in last week's loss to Oklahoma State, but was just was 22-of-40 for 139 yards and 2 INTs. McCoy has thrown for 451 yards and is 2/0 this season.

Case McCoy and David Ash have shared the Texas quarterbacking duties since the second week and both are preparing for Oklahoma State.

Coach Mack Brown is not commenting on the situation, deferring to co-offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin, who at least allowed that one may emerge in practice before Saturday. McCoy has had most of the work since Week 2 while Ash has thrown 32 of his 39 passes the past two weeks. Both have completed better than 60 percent of their throws.

Sophomore QB Case McCoy took the majority of snaps in the Longhorns 49-20 win over UCLA.

An efficient performance from McCoy, who completed 12-of-15 for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Texas will continue to create packages for freshman QB David Ash, but the starting job appears to be McCoy's to lose. Freshman RB Malcolm Brown added 110 yards on 22 carries, including a 16 yard score on the opening drive of the second quarter.
