Iowa State hired Illinois offensive analyst Nathan Scheelhaase to serve as running backs coach.
Scheelhaase was a four-year starter at quarterback for the Illini from 2010-13. After hanging up his cleats following the 2013 season, he took a year off before embarking on his post-playing career, with Illinois hiring him as assistant director of football operations in the spring of 2015. This gig with Iowa State will not be his first as a running backs coach, as he served in that capacity at Illinois in 2016 following the team's abrupt firing of HC Tim Beckman just days before the start of that season. Former Illinois QB Nathan Scheelhaase has been hired to the school's staff as an assistant director of football operations.

Scheelhaase was offered the job last year and declined, leading to the hiring of another former Illini QB Juice Williams. Many times a position like this leads to a full-time assistant role, or the player moves on to another job in a year or two.

Illinois junior QB Nathan Scheelhasse's father has been banned from campus for a year after his arrest at Saturday's game.

Nathan Creer was arrested after an argument involving at least five people at Memorial Stadium during the Illini's game against Michigan State. "(Creer) resisted and obstructed the officer's efforts to remove him from the incident," university police Chief Jeff Christensen said. "He became somewhat aggressive with the officer." Alcohol appeared to be a factor, according to Christensen. "(Nathan Scheelhaase is) a great young man and I know he'll be able to work through the situation," Illinois football coach Tim Beckman said. "Nathan can (only) control what Nathan can control."

Illinois junior QB Nathan Scheelhasse is unlikely to play in the second half of Saturday's game against Michigan.

Scheelhaase took a hard hit at the end of a 23 yard run but no specifics of a possible injury were given. Illinois was down 17-0 at halftime to the Wolverines.

Illinois junior QB Nathan Scheelhaase told reporters that he plans to play against Louisiana Tech on Saturday.

Head coach Tim Beckman said that Scheelhaase is "almost 100 percent" and everyone around the team expects the junior to start. He has missed the last two games with a left ankle injury but don't expect it to be three straight.

Illinois junior QB Nathan Scheelhaase will not play Saturday against Charleston Southern.

Scheelhaase injured his left ankle during the team's game against Arizona State. Prior reports stated that the junior was close to playing, so we expect him to suit up next week.

When asked if junior QB Nathan Scheelhaase would play this week versus Charleston Southern, Illinois head coach Tim Beckman stated that "We don't have any time to rest."

From that statement, we guess Scheelhaase is ready to return from a left ankle injury that kept him out of last week's matchup against Arizona State. The Illini offense really struggled without the junior, managing only 14 points in the game.

Illinois junior QB Nathan Scheelhaase is listed as questionable for the team's game against Arizona State after suffering a left ankle injury in the opener.

Scheelhaase did practice Sunday night, but according to head coach Tim Beckman, "He was out there, definitely not full-go. I know Nathan is going to do whatever he can to be out there on Saturday." Beckman went on to basically say that unless his quarterback participates fully in practice, he will not play in Saturday's contest. If the junior is out, sophomore Reilly O’Toole will get the start.

The shoulder injury that forced Illinois quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase from last week’s game should not prevent him from playing Saturday.

Scheelhaase and the Fighting Illini host Western Michigan on Saturday. While the Broncos are a solid MAC program, coach Ron Zook might want to give his quarterback a quick hook if Illinois gets a sizable lead. The Big Ten schedule kicks off next week with Northwestern coming to Champaign.
