CBS Sports' Dane Brugler thinks Texas senior WR Jaxon Shipley "has a similar skill-set" to big brother Jordan, a third-rounder in the 2010 draft.
"The younger Shipley won't match his older brother's receiving marks at Texas, but that's largely due to the fact that Jordan played with Colt McCoy and Jaxson has had to catch passes from wildly inconsistent Case McCoy and David Ash," Brugler wrote. "Shipley doesn't have elite physical traits with only ordinary size, speed and strength, but he has some shake in his routes and knows how to hold defenders, displaying a strong competitive nature at the catch point." The analyst doesn't believe Jaxon will go as high as Jordan (No. 84 overall). "But like his brother, he knows how to operate out of the slot and be an effective and reliable underneath target," Brugler wrote. Jun 11 - 9:49 PM

Texas junior WR Jaxon Shipley and sophomore WR Marcus Johnson returned to practice on Wednesday.

Both were limited on Tuesday. "They did not have more soreness today than yesterday, so that was good," head coach Mack Brown said. "We'll press them a little bit harder today, get them in more competition and probably won't know for sure how they'll do until Saturday morning." Shipley is recovering from a hip injury, while Johnson sprained his right MCL earlier this month.

Texas receiver Jaxon Shipley (knee) will play in the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 28.

Shipley missed three games in November due to the injury, but returned for the team's final two games. The freshman is not fully healed, but will tough it out and be on the field against Cal in San Diego. Shipley caught 40 passes this season for 593 yards and three touchdowns in nine games, including a four-catch, 121-yard effort last game against Baylor.

Texas WR John Harris has been officially ruled out for Saturday's game at Iowa State due to a foot injury, the university announced.

It is not yet known how long Harris will be sidelined but Shipley stands to benefit with fellow WR Marquise Goodwin struggling for playing time. Shipley leads all Texas receivers in receptions (10) operating primarily out of the slot in Major Applewhite's offense. The true freshman has 139 yards (13.9 average) through three games this season.
