Bernard Pierce ran for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns in Temple’s 37-15 win over Wyoming in the New Mexico Bowl.

Pierce had a pair of one-yard touchdown runs in the second quarter to give the Owls a 21-0 lead. Pierce, who had 25 carries in his ninth 100-yard game of 2011, finished the season with 1,481 yards and 27 rushing touchdowns despite missing one game and playing banged up in others. The junior filed for the NFL draft, so the bowl may have been his final game in a Temple uniform. If so, he completes his career with 3,570 rushing yards and 53 TDs on the ground.

Temple running back Bernard Pierce filed paperwork with the NFL draft advisory board.

If the New Mexico Bowl against Wyoming proves to be Pierce’s final appearance in a Temple uniform, then the junior could go out in style. The Cowboys’ rush defense is among the worst in the nation and will be challenged to contain Pierce, who is sixth nationally with an average of 126 yards rushing per game.

Temple’s Bernard Pierce ran for 189 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 34-16 win over visiting Kent State.

Pierce’s eighth 100-yard effort in 11 games this season marked a season high. He missed one contest due to injury and he and the Owls (8-4) hope a bowl awaits. Pierce finished the regular season with 1,381 yards (5.6 ypc) and 25 TDs on the ground, the latter ties Wisconsin’s Montee Ball and Kansas State's Collin Klein for the nation's lead. Ball has at least two games remaining and possibly three while Klein has a pair left.

Temple running back Bernard Pierce is practicing with the Owls, but coach Steve Addazio is not commenting on his star running back’s availability for Army.

The oft-injured Pierce missed last Wednesday’s game against Miami (Ohio) after he took a shot to the head at Ohio on Nov. 2. The junior was already hindered by a sore hamstring. Pierce ran for 100-plus yards six times in the Owls’ first eight contests and has 1,035 yards on the season. Pierce also has a school-record 19 rushing TDs and earlier this season broke the mark for career rushing touchdowns and total TDs.

Temple running back Bernard Pierce has broken school records for touchdown runs in a season and total career TDs.

Pierce’s 53-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter against Buffalo was his 17th of the season, breaking his own mark set as a freshman in 2009. The score was also the 43rd of his career, which bested Paul Palmer’s mark. Pierce was 18-141-2 in little more than a quarter as Temple took a 17-0 lead on the visiting Bulls.

Temple running back Bernard Pierce took over the nation's lead with 15 rushing touchdowns after scoring three times at Ball State.

With Montee Ball (14 rush TDs) and Wisconsin off, Pierce's 15 rushing touchdowns will likely lead the nation by the time Saturday's action is in the books. Though the Owls romped at Ball State, 42-0, Pierce (120 yards) had to work for his yardage and TDs as he toted the ball 30 times. The effort was his fourth 100-yard game on the season and the third time he ran for at least 3 TDs.
