Maryland redshirt senior QB C.J. Brown left Saturday's game versus Iowa in the third quarter with a back injury, but returned to finish the game.
As Brown was falling to the ground on a tackle, an Iowa defender dove in and landed on his back. Brown lay facedown for several minutes before he was evaluated on the sideline and eventually ushered to the locker room. He returned with about 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter. "It definitely scared me because the whole right side of my back tightened up, locked up," said Brown, who suffered an upper-trapezius injury in his back. "I've got to look at the film. I thought it was a late hit. He got me on top of the head, so my neck and my shoulders are a little bit tight. … But I felt like I could go, and I was able to go back out there and finish." The Terps will monitor Brown's status closely throughout the week. If Brown has to miss any time, No. 3 quarterback Perry Hills will play, as backup Caleb Rowe (ACL) is out for the year. Maryland HC Randy Edsall will not update redshirt senior QB C.J. Brown's status until Saturday's game against Ohio State.

Brown suffered a sprained left wrist last Saturday against Indiana and missed the second half. "We’ll see if he can practice," Edsall said. "But we won’t have anything [on his status] until game-time." This is just another example of why injury reports should be enforced for college programs. Caleb Rowe would start in Brown's place.

Maryland redshirt senior QB C.J. Brown "has some passing skills that translate favorably to the next level," according to CBS Sports' Dane Brugler

"Although the production has been pedestrian, Brown has some passing skills that translate favorably to the next level," Brugler wrote. "However the big red flag with Brown is durability as he has had to deal with a number of injuries the past few seasons and desperately needs a healthy senior campaign if he has any hopes of playing professionally." Brown was named the team’s offensive player of the year and MVP last year, becoming the first Terrapin to pass for over 2,000 yards and rush for over 500 yards in a single season.

Maryland junior QB C.J. Brown took the blame for the Terrapins' current 1-4 skid.

The Terrapins were 4-0 and ranked No. 25 six weeks ago. Maryland is now 5-4 and it doesn't have a great chance of winning this weekend at Virginia Tech. "It's definitely on me," Brown said. "That reflects that (quarterback) position. I've got to be able to lead the team down the field and make plays." Maryland's top two receivers, Stefon Diggs and Deon Long, are out for the season with broken legs. "To me," Maryland coach Randy Edsall said, "C.J. gives us the best opportunity to win."

Maryland junior QB C.J. Brown (concussion) will miss Saturday's game against No. 9 Clemson.

Brown suffered the head injury earlier this month against Florida State when he took a nasty hit from Seminoles defensive lineman Jacobbi McDaniel. Caleb Rowe will start against the Tigers. Maryland listed an astounding 24 players on its Thursday injury report.

Maryland junior QB C.J. Brown (concussion) was cleared to practice on Sunday.

Brown suffered a concussion earlier this month against Florida State. Although he passed every concussion test he took leading up to Saturday's game against Virginia, Maryland elected to play it safe and de-activate Brown (the Terps won anyway, 27-26). It seems probable at this point that Brown will play against Wake Forest on Saturday; backup Caleb Rowe will start again if Brown's situation unexpectedly deteriorates.

Maryland junior QB C.J. Brown is listed as doubtful for Saturday's game against Virginia.

Brown suffered a concussion on Saturday against Florida State after Seminoles defensive lineman Jacobbi McDaniel put his helmet through Brown's chest and the quarterback's head snapped back. Backup Caleb Rowe will make his second career start if Brown can't give it a go. Rowe isn't nearly as adept at running the zone-read option as Brown, but he possesses a strong arm and can effectively run the offense.

Maryland junior QB C.J. Brown is listed as "day-to-day" after suffering a concussion on Saturday against Florida State.

Brown sustained the head injury in the second quarter while attempting a long pass to Nigel King; upon release, he was crushed by FSU defenders Christian Jones and Jacobbi McDaniel. No penalty was called on the play and Maryland coach Randy Edsall wouldn't disclose if he'll submit tape of the hit to the ACC league office. Caleb Rowe will get the call on Saturday against Virginia if Brown isn't able to play.

Maryland starting junior QB C.J. Brown suffered a torn ACL and will miss the 2012 season, according to beat writer Gene Wang.

The injury reportedly took place last night during a non-contact practice and head coach Randy Edsall will make an announcement later today. The Terps are now left with very little experience at the quarterback position, with freshman Perry Hills slightly edging out fellow classmate Caleb Rowe for the backup spot. Hills worked with the second team all spring, so he appears to be the logical choice at this time.

If Maryland quarterback C.J. Brown is to get another start, he won’t know until game time against Boston College.

Coach Randy Edsall is going to keep everybody in suspense, which may not be a bad thing. Brown and Danny O’Brien offer different styles that require different modes of preparation for opposing defenses. Two weeks ago, Clemson did not know Brown was starting and the QB totaled 337 yards. Last week, Florida State knew Brown would start and limited the sophomore to 117 yards before he left in the second half after sustaining a hit to the head. Maybe it is best for Edsall to keep mum.

Sophomore C.J. Brown will start at quarterback for Maryland against Florida State on Saturday.

The way Brown performed in last week’s track meet against Clemson, it would have been stunning had he not been given the start against the Seminoles. Fellow sophomore Danny O’Brien had started 15 straight games, but he has had problems moving the ball this season. Brown had no such issues last week in totaling 339 yards (177 passing) and 4 touchdowns in a 56-45 loss to the Tigers.

Maryland quarterback C.J. Brown totaled 339 yards and 4 touchdown in his first-career start, a 56-45 loss to Clemson.

Brown had an uneven night through the air, going 17-of-35 for 177 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT. On the ground, he was 22-162-1. His rushing yardage marked a season-high for the Terps. Coach Randy Edsall was evaluating the quarterback situation after last week’s setback against Georgia Tech. There will be no such contemplation this coming week as Brown has taken the job from Danny O’Brien, who did not see the field Saturday night.

Maryland quarterback C.J. Brown ran for 124 yards in relief of Danny O'Brien, but coach Randy Edsall is "evaluating" the position.

O’Brien, last season’s ACC Freshman of the Year, may not even be Maryland’s starting QB come Saturday against Clemson. He was 1-of-6 with a pick against Georgia Tech on Saturday and, frankly, has not done much since an opening win over Miami. O’Brien is the nation’s 92nd-rated passer. Brown, also a sophomore, was only 4-of-17 for 36 yards with a pick against the Yellow Jackets. However, he provides a dynamic O'Brien does not: the ability to run. Brown ran for 124 yards, including a 77-yarder for a TD, and led another scoring drive. He has given coach Randy Edsall, who indicated he will evaluate the play of both QBs before making a decision as to who will start against Clemson this week, something to think about.
