Northwestern senior RB Venric Mark has been clocked at 4.32 in the forty-yard dash.
Mark measures only 5-foot-8, 175 pounds, but he's a terror on the field capable of breaking defenses as a rusher, receiver or returner. Formerly a prep track stud in Houston, Mark is now a dynamic but injury-prone weapon out of the Wildcats' backfield. The NCAA granted Mark a fifth year of eligibility in January after he missed most of last season with a factored ankle. If he stays healthy this season -- no certainty -- Mark could top 2012's total of 1,366 rushing yards on 6.0 yards per carry May 30 - 7:23 PM

Northwestern announced on Tuesday that senior RB Venric Mark has been granted a fifth year of eligibility.

This is spectacular news for the Wildcats, who welcome back a talented chain-mover who rushed for 1,366 rushing yards on 6.0 yards per carry during his junior season in 2012. Mark fractured his ankle on Oct. 12 at Wisconsin and didn't play for the rest of the season. He only completed one full game last season.

Northwestern senior RB Venric Mark (ankle) will not play again this season.

Head coach Pat Fitzgerald announced the news on Monday. Mark, who is nursing a fractured ankle, is expected to apply for a medical redshirt which would allow him to play in 2014. The senior only completed one full game this season while dealing with his bothersome ankle.

Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald announced on Monday that senior RB Venric Mark (ankle) might take a redshirt in 2013.

Mark has played in only one full game this season due to a series of leg injuries. He first became bothered by the injury in preseason camp and didn't play an entire game until Oct. 5's contest against Ohio State. Mark left the following week's game and hasn't played since. If he shuts it down for the season, Fitzgerald believes Mark would receive a medical redshirt. Northwestern beat writer Teddy Green Stein wrote earlier this month that there is some concern that Mark has a fracture in his left leg.

Beat writer Teddy Green Stein wrote last week that there is some concern that Mark has a fracture in his left leg. The Wildcats are currently embroiled in a three-game losing streak.

According to beat writer Teddy Green Stein, there is some concern that Northwestern senior RB Venric Mark has a fracture in his left leg.

"The docs told me he has an ankle (issue) and we will discuss it when we get back home," head coach Pat Fitzgerald said last Saturday. ESPN noted during the telecast that Mark had an X-ray taken, but no further updates were given. Mark has been called day-to-day this week.

Northwestern senior RB Venric Mark is considered day-to-day with a lower body injury.

Mark only had three carries and a catch before leaving. "He came in for another play on offense," head coach Pat Fitzgerald said. "Then he said he couldn't go." Mark has missed three games this season, and those around the team speculate he's dealing with a hamstring injury.

Northwestern senior RB Venric Mark is listed as questionable for Saturday's game against Western Michigan.

Mark is dealing with a lower body injury suffered before the season. Beat writer Chris Johnson believes it isn't important for Mark to play against Western Michigan, a gimme, and the most important thing is for the running back to be healthy against Ohio State on October 5.

Northwestern senior RB Venric Mark (lower body injury) received limited reps in practice this week.

Mark was given only 11 carries against Cal last week and converted them into a measly 29 yards. The returning All-American punt returner was also removed from all special teams packages versus the Golden Bears. Diminished practice reps probably means he's looking at another quieter-than-usual game plan against Syracuse on Saturday in the team's home opener.

Northwestern junior RB Venric Mark rushed for 126 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries Saturday against Illinois.

Mark has burst onto the scene this year as one of the best runners in the Big 10. We would expect him to return for his senior season, so keep his name in mind when 2013 games kick off.

Northwestern junior RB Venric Mark will not return to Saturday's game against Michigan State with an "upper extremity" injury.

Prior to leaving, Mark had an uncharacteristically poor day, rushing for seven yards on six carries. The junior has been one of the top runners in the Big 10 this season, and should continue that streak into next year.

Northwestern junior RB Venric Mark rushed for 162 yards on 16 carries Saturday against Iowa.

Mark added two receptions for 11 yards. The junior had a huge run of 72 yards deep in his own territory, splitting the middle of the line but was chased down by Micah Hyde. Mark has been one of the hidden gems in the Big Ten this season.

Northwestern junior RB Venric Mark rushed for 182 yards on 20 carries, along with two touchdowns in Saturday's win over Minnesota.

Mark has now had four big games this season and has plenty of ability to couple with athletic utility man Kain Coulter. The junior has been a real surprise and should continue to put up big numbers moving forward.

Northwestern junior RB Venric Mark rushed for 139 yards on 29 carries, including a touchdown, in Saturday's game against Indiana.

Mark has been a bright spot on the Wildcats this season after converting from receiver during the offseason. Northwestern remains undefeated and their offense has hit on all cylinders thus far.
