ESPN's Mel Kiper ranks USC's Silas Redd as the top senior RB in the 2014 class.
Redd checks in as the fourth running back overall. "Redd isn't what I'd call an explosive runner, but he does a very good job of running through contact and grinding out extra yards," Kiper writes. "He ran a little dinged up toward the end of last season, and should be even better in 2013. When he takes on contact, Redd runs bigger than his listed 200 pounds." We are more worried about his ball security issues. May 16 - 2:19 PM

USC junior RB Silas Redd will undergo surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee.

The soon to be senior suffered the injury during the school's scrimmage last Tuesday. He will miss the rest of spring practice, but head coach Lane Kiffin believes Redd will certainly be healthy when the Trojans open summer practice in four months.

USC junior RB Silas Redd's availability for Saturday's game against UCLA may be in question.

Due to head coach Lane Kiffin's strict injury information restrictions, the type of injury has not been disclosed, but Kiffin only answered with "hope so" when asked if Redd will suit up. The junior has flashed solid play, but poorly time fumbles have kept him from a good first season with the Trojans.

USC head coach Lane Kiffin has not held back his disdain for junior RB Silas Redd's fumbling issues, along with the other Trojans' RBs.

"It's been very discouraging," Kiffin said. "They've been momentum-changing turnovers, where they've been really big deals." Last week, Redd fumbled at the start of the second quarter with the Trojans in the red zone down ten points. As we've seen in the NFL, ball security issues can land a young player in the dog house very quickly.

USC junior RB Silas Redd ran over the Washington defense on Saturday for 155 yards, averaging six yards per carry, along with one touchdown.

Redd had his way with the Huskies defense, running through arm tackles at every level of the field. With a somewhat injured Curtis McNeal, expect Redd to carry the load moving forward, just like he has in recent weeks. The Penn Sate transfer has been a great pickup for the Trojans, as long as he continues to hold onto the football.

USC junior RB Silas Redd rushed for 77 yards on 4.5 yards per carry, including one touchdown, in Thursday's win over Utah.

Redd displayed solid laterally running ability and the vision to see backside cuts on stretch plays. Fellow running back Cutis McNeal left the game early in the first quarter with an apparent concussion, so the show was Redd's to steal. He is the more talented of the two, but both have some level of NFL future.

USC junior RB Silas Redd exploded for 158 rushing yards, averaging 7.5 yards per carry, and added a touchdown in Saturday's win over Cal.

Redd was the Trojans top back and displayed some nice lateral moves, followed by a quick burst upfield to pick up yards between the tackles or on the edge. It appears Redd has put on some more muscle, but it is unclear whether the former Nittany Lion will stay at USC beyond this year.

USC junior RB Silas Redd put for his best performance as a Trojan against Syracuse Saturday, rushing 107 yards on 15 carries.

Redd outperformed senior starter Curtis McNeal but the two will continue to split carries going forward. The Penn Sate transfer works very well behind blocks and cuts laterally off them with ease. He is just another talented player in the Trojans vaunted offense.

SI's Tony Pauline projects new USC junior RB Silas Redd as an undrafted free agent NFL prospect heading into the 2012 season.

Pauline gives no reasoning for his undraftable grade, but offered the same projection for current senior DT Jordan Hill and new Cal junior LB Khairi Fortt. We absolutely believe Redd has NFL caliber talent and is likely at worst a third day pick, however, the running back noted on multiple occasions in his transfer announcement that his intention is to fulfill his final two years of eligibility. We are not doubting Redd's honesty, but a very production season could change his mind.

Penn State junior RB Silas Redd has decided to transfer to USC after visiting the school this past weekend.

Many close to the situation called the move "inevitable" over the weekend, but this is a massive get for the Trojans. Redd was easily Penn State's most talented player on offense and strengthens USC's arguably weakest offensive position. The junior will compete with senior Curtis McNeal in preseason camp, but we expect Redd to finish the season with the larger number of carries. The now former Nittany Lion already possessed NFL caliber talent, but is going to a much better situation and will be surrounded by quality playmakers. The Trojans now sport a 3,500 yard passer, two 1,000 yard rushers, and two 1,000 yard receivers on offense.

Penn State junior RB Silas Redd's college transcripts have arrived at USC in preparation for his Saturday visit, according to Scott Wolf.

Wolf called this action "the next step toward what looks like [Redd's] inevitable enrollment." Redd's family will also attend the weekend visit and he should make his decision soon after.

Silas Redd's father said that his son has not committed to USC, according to Nate Bauer of Rivals.

From Silas Redd Sr. "The report that Silas is gone is misinformation!" Gerard Martinez of Rivals' USC section has also reported that Redd and his family "are in the process of setting up an visit to USC this weekend." We expect the junior running back to make his decision soon after.

Penn State junior RB Silas Redd will transfer to USC, according to Fox Sports Radio's Tim Cates.

Redd and USC head coach Lane Kiffin's earlier conversation must have gone well. Previous reports stated that Redd would likely stay at Penn State, but this decision comes as no surprise if it holds up. Tim Cates hosts a show along with former USC Trojan Petros Papadakis, so the assumption is they have sources close to the situation. A newspaper near Redd's hometown has already denied the running back's verbal commitment to USC. The logical next step would be for Redd to visit the Trojans' campus and make a final decision from there. We will update you as the situation develops.

Penn State junior RB Silas Redd is scheduled to meet with USC head coach Lane Kiffin on Thursday.

Redd is doing his due diligence here and exploring all of his options. Considering Illinois sent a contingent of coaches to Penn State to recruit freshman tackle Ryan Nowicki, and even more staff to his hometown to visit his parents, a simple interview with a head coach is not far-fetched. The longer it takes Redd to make his decision, the more likely he is to stay in State College.

Despite previous reports noting differently, no Penn State players will attend the Big Ten media days.

Usually two or three players, along with the school's coach, attend the media days and juniors Silas Redd, John Urschel and senior Jordan Hill had been scheduled to attend. Head coach Bill O'Brien likely made the call, but that has not been confirmed. The group likely would have received a large portion of the attention, from both the media and coaches, so we understand the decision in this uncertain time.
