Despite suffering a broken ankle last October that had to be pinned together, Oklahoma senior RB Dominique Whaley says he is healthy and better than ever.
"I'm a lot stronger, my frame has gotten a lot bigger, I've put on even more weight," he said. Whaley was the Sooners' primary back as a walk-on before going down with the injury. The senior rushed for 627 yards in seven games, averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Whaley's story is an admirable one, spending the early parts of his career as an NAIA benchwarmer before deciding to walk-on at Oklahoma because his girlfriend attended the school. If healthy, he will likely lead the Sooners in carries. Tue, Aug 7, 2012 03:43:00 PM

Oklahoma senior RB Dominique Whaley has been cleared for all activities after fully recovering from his broken leg suffered last October.

Whaley should regain the starting running back role and lead the team in carries if he remains healthy. The broken leg came on the Sooners' first series against Kansas State, but up until that point Whaley had 627 yards on 5.5 yards per carry and nine touchdowns. Oklahoma will field an excellent one-two punch with Whaley and junior Roy Finch, who could see more overall touches.

Running back Dominique Whaley is rehabbing and should be good to go when fall drills begin in August.

Whaley was a feel-good story in Norman last season as he earned the top spot at tailback. He was enjoying a fine season (627 yards, 5.5 ypc, 9 TDs) before breaking his ankle against Kansas State on Oct. 30. Whaley has been continuing his rehab process this spring and reports have him ahead of schedule with respect to availability for fall practice in August.

Running back Dominique Whaley had a career game Saturday, rushing 30 times for 165 yards and a TD.

Whaley says that he has never had 30 rushes in a game at any level in his career. Though overshadowed by teammate Ryan Broyles' record-setting night, he made the most of his touches, averaging 5.5 yards per carry and helping his team to a win against Kansas. Whaley now has 627 yards and 9 touchdowns on the season.
