Draft insider Tony Pauline reports that Mississippi State QB Tyler Russell "put on a passing clinic" in a private workout for the Patriots, Packers and Chiefs on Thursday.
"His deep passes were on the money and Russell was also accurate with short and intermediate throws," Pauline wrote. Because Russell's senior season was ruined by a concussion and a torn labrum, he may not be drafted. However, the 6-foot-4, 221-pounder has intriguing tools and is a decent developmental option due to his size and arm strength. Pauline adds that running back LaDarius Perkins was a "beneficiary" of the workout because he "really impressed scouts with his pass catching skills." Apr 25 - 7:25 PM

The Patriots, Packers and Chiefs put Mississippi State QB Tyler Russell through a workout on campus.

Russell's senior season was wrecked by an early concussion and then a torn labrum late in the season. The 6-foot-4, 221-pounder has intriguing tools, however, and has a fan in draft insider Tony Pauline: "Russell was underrated coming into this season before injuries derailed his development. He possesses the size and arm strength to play at the next level and at the same time shows good wherewithal for the position. He's a practice-squad prospect that could compete for a job in the NFL if healthy."

Mississippi State senior QB Tyler Russell underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

This is Russell's throwing shoulder, and he will obviously miss a good portion of the pre-draft process. It has been an up and down career for Russell, but he might get a camp invite this summer.

Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen will not name his starting quarterback prior to Saturday's game against LSU.

Senior QB Tyler Russell sustained a concussion in the opener against Oklahoma State and hasn't played since. Sophomore Dak Prescott has been up-and-down in his place, but has displayed plenty of promise as a dual-threat option. "We'll figure it out as we go," Mullen said of playing time distribution. From everything that we're reading, it appears as though Russell is fully healed and should make the start. If that is indeed the case, Prescott would be used in sub-packages. "[Russell has] been in big games," Mullen said. "Obviously I see it very differently than if he was an inexperienced quarterback. Like any situation, he's ready to go play."

Mississippi State senior QB Tyler Russell will miss Saturday's game against Auburn with lingering concussion symptoms.

Head coach Dan Mullen stated Russell would play multiple times per week, but he obviously lied. The senior suffered the concussion during the week one game against Oklahoma State and missed last weekend's game against Alcorn State.

Mississippi State senior QB Tyler Russell is expected to play against Auburn after recovering from a concussion.

Russell was sidelined for the Bulldogs' game against Alcorn State. "I don’t know Tyler’s situation," head coach Dan Mullen said. "He might not be cleared early in the week... I expect him to be ready to go for the game but I don’t know what day this week he’ll be ready to practice though." Russell flashes some pro qualities, but he gets far too flustered under pressure.

Mississippi State senior QB Tyler Russell is doubtful for Saturday's game against Alcorn State with a concussion.

Russell left last Saturday's game against Oklahoma State with the head injury. The quarterback suffered the concussion in a collision with linebacker Ryan Simmons and stayed down on the field for quite some time. Redshirt sophomore Dak Prescott will likely start in his place.

Mississippi State senior QB Tyler Russell exited Saturday's game against Oklahoma State with a head injury.

Russell hit his head in a collision with Oklahoma State linebacker Ryan Simmons during the third quarter. He was on the field for quite some time before being helped to the sideline. Redshirt sophomore Dak Prescott replaced Russell, the longtime starter for the Bulldogs.

Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy believes Mississippi State senior QB Tyler Russell will play in the NFL.

"I said the same thing about the guy at Arizona last year," Gundy said of Matt Scott, an undrafted prospect battling to make the Jaguars. "I think [Russell]'s an NFL quarterback." The Cowboys and Bulldogs will square off in Saturday's opener at Houston's Reliant Stadium. Russell, a 6-foot-4, 220-pounder, is a "big, strong armed pocket passer that needs polish but has huge upside," according to draft insider Tony Pauline. The senior signal-caller must improve on his decision-making under pressure and limit crippling interceptions to move squarely onto NFL draft boards.

Draft insider Tony Pauline believes there is a lot to like about Mississippi State senior QB Tyler Russell.

Russell is a "big, strong armed pocket passer that needs polish but has huge upside," according to Pauline. While Russell flashed some promising ability, he was equally as frustrating when forcing interceptions. He needs to stay more composed under pressure, but Russell has enough arm to get a look at from the NFL.

Tyler Russell leaves no question that he is the starting quarterback.

Russell had a nice spring after a disappointing conclusion to the 2011 season. A knee sprain kept him out of the last two games, including the Music City Bowl. Russell took over the starting chores for Chris Reif in MSU’s fifth game. With Reif’s eligibility expired, it is Russell's job to lose.

Mississippi State quarterback Tyler Russell injured his knee and will miss the next two practices.

Bulldogs coach Dan Mullen said that surgery is not required and Russell will be available for the Dec. 30 Music City Bowl against Wake Forest. This news comes mere days after No. 3 QB Dylan Favre announced he was transferring. Starter Chris Reif and freshman Dak Prescott, who has not played this season, will take the practice reps. Russell has started four games this season and has thrown for 1,084 yards, with eight touchdowns to just four interceptions.

Tyler Russell was Mississippi States's starting QB last week, but the No. 1 job is week-to-week.

Chris Reif started 19 straight games before Russell took over last week against South Carolina. Russell started the second half against UAB two weeks ago and threw 3 TDs in a 21-3 win ove UAB. He earned the start against the Gamecocks and was 11-29-165 and 1/2. It was hardly a confidence inspiring effort, but after a week off, going with Wilson against Kentucky might be the right move as Reif is not even in the top 100 in pass efficiency.
