Tennessee senior QB Justin Worley will miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.
Head coach Butch Jones confirmed that Worley would have surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound senior ends the season with 1,579 passing yards and a 12/8 TD/INT ratio. Worley was replaced by sophomore Joshua Dobbs, who lit the world on fire last week when he became the first Tennessee quarterback to ever throw for 300+ yards while rushing for 100+ in the same game. The Volunteers won that contest against South Carolina 45-42 in overtime. Nov 4 - 8:04 PM

Tennessee HC Butch Jones anticipates that senior QB Justin Worley should be available for Saturday's game against No. 4 Alabama and his shoulder injury shouldn't keep him from practicing this week.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Worley injured his shoulder late in the 34-3 loss to Ole Miss on Saturday. Worley was replaced on the Volunteers' second-to-last drive by redshirt sophomore QB Nathan Peterman.
Oct 22 - 3:03 PM

Tennessee head coach Butch Jones named senior Justin Worley the team's starting QB.

Worley started seven games last season after starting none in 2012 but three as a freshman. As a junior, he likely would have finished 2013 as a starter but went down with a thumb injury that required surgery. Sophomore Joshua Dobbs and redshirt Nathan Peterman were also contending for a starting gig. Despite starting ten games in his career, Worley has only thrown 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He has a great target in sophomore Marquez North.

Tennessee HC Butch Jones said a starting QB might be named this week.

The Vols continued to rotate a number of quarterbacks last season without one taking a firm handle on the starting job. Senior Justin Worley, sophomore Joshua Dobbs and redshirt Nathan Peterman are just some of the possibilities.
Aug 11 - 12:57 PM

Tennessee junior QB Justin Worley will miss the next month of the season after tearing ligaments in his right thumb.

Freshman Joshua Dobbs will start in Worley's place. The quarterback play can't get any worse for the Vols, as Worley has been less than adequate this season. Dobbs completed five-of-12 passes for 75 yards in limited action against Alabama last week.

Tennessee head coach Butch Jones has officially opened the starting QB competition.

Junior Justin Worley has started all three contests, but has struggled the last two weeks against Western Kentucky and Oregon. Redshirt freshman Nathan Peterman might be the new favorite, but true freshmen Riley Ferguson and Joshua Dobbs could snag the spot despite not throwing any passes in live action this season. The Vols face Florida's dominant front four this week.

Tennessee beat writer Jimmy Hyams believes the Vols might re-open their QB competition after junior Justin Worley's struggles this season.

"Justin Worley has been indecisive and inaccurate," Hyams tweeted. The junior has completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 372 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception, but apparently those numbers can be deceiving. Most of those numbers were posted in the week one contest against Austin Peay, and Worley's play has dropped against Western Kentucky and Oregon. Freshman Nathan Peterman could be in the competition to start against Florida.

ESPN's Brett McMurphy tweeted Tennessee has named junior Justin Worley the school's starting QB.

The Volunteers open against Austin Peay, so Worley better not struggle. To be fair, local radio host Dave Hooker made the same announcement a week ago. Worley was listed as the co-starter along with freshman Nathan Peterman in July. The junior has completed 57.3 percent of his 110 attempts over the last two seasons to go with a 1/5 TD/INT ratio. Hopefully those numbers improve.

Tennessee will use junior Justin Worley as the team's starting QB, according to local radio host Dave Hooker.

This is not a shocking development, since Worley was listed as a co-starter, along with freshman Nathan Peterman, back in July. Worley has failed to impress in limited action, completing 57.3% of his 110 attempts over the last two seasons to go with a 1/5 TD/INT rate, so hopefully he improves on those numbers. The Vols also lost a ridiculous amount of receiver talent to the NFL, so that is an issue that could hold Worley back.

Tennessee listed junior Justin Worley and redshirt freshman Nathan Peterman as joint No. 1 quarterbacks in the first depth chart released by head coach Butch Jones.

Worley has failed to impress in limited action, completing 57.3% of his 110 attempts over the last two seasons to go with a 1/5 TD/INT rate. He was a 3-star recruit out of South Carolina in 2011, the No. 30 overall pro-style quarterback according to Rivals. Peterman has neither the size nor the experience of Worley, but he was similarly rated coming out of high school, tabbed a 3-star prospect by ESPN and a 4-star recruit by Rivals. The sites disagreed on his ultimate potential, with ESPN ranking Peterman the No. 39 overall quarterback and Rivals ranking him 10th overall.

Quarterback Justin Worley will be the starter for the Vols against Middle Tennessee State Saturday.

Head coach Derek Dooley confirmed that Worley will make his second-career start despite a shaky debut last week against South Carolina. Worley went 10-for-26 for 105 yards and 2 INTs in the 14-3 loss. The freshman should fare at least a bit better as UT takes on a significantly less-tough opponent in Middle Tennessee State this Saturday.

Freshman QB Justin Worley will start for Tennessee against South Carolina this Saturday.

Head coach Derek Dooley made the announcement at his Monday press conference, two days after benching Matt Simms in favor of Worley. "I don't know what it's going to look like on Saturday," said Dooley. "I just think it's the right thing to do." Worley did not attempt a pass during his first collegiate action, Saturday's 37-6 loss to Alabama.
