The New England Patriots are showing interest in Fresno State RB Robbie Rouse, according to draft insider Tony Pauline.
We can absolutely see the fit in the sixth- or seventh-round. Rouse is a very short and compact back who thrives on cuts in short spaces to avoid tacklers. We don't think he is as quick or fast as some will say, but Rouse is animated with his movements with good anticipation. He might be similar to Kevin Faulk in that respect. Fresno State senior RB Robbie Rouse was limited to 22 rushing yards on 13 carries against SMU.

He did add 29 receiving yards on five receptions. Rouse was unable to get past the first line of defense in this game, therefore his open field cuts were limited from the start. We still like his potential to impact in NFL team as a third day pick, but his size will likely keep him waiting until the later rounds.

SMU will play Fresno State in the Hawaii Bowl on December 24.

On the SMU side, senior defensive end Margus Hunt offers tremendous size but he is more of a frame than football player right now. The Mustangs also feature running back Zach Line and receiver Darius Johnson. Fresno State deploys one of the top safety prospects in the country in senior Phillip Thomas. The Bulldogs have have a talented offense led by junior Derek Carr and underrated runner Robbie Rouse, a personal favorite.

Fresno State senior RB Robbie Rouse rushed for 120 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries Saturday against New Mexico.

We absolutely love Rouse's talent, especially when he displays lateral agility to force miss tackles. However, we have a feeling he will be a mid-third day selection due to his frame, although that reasoning isn't necessarily correct. Expect to hear Rouse's name more when evaluators start to review this year's games.
