Running back Marcus Coker, who was second in the Big Ten in rushing, asked for and was granted a release from his scholarship at Iowa.

Coker was suspended for the Insight Bowl due to unspecified reasons pertaining to conduct. The university would not go into detail as to Coker's release, but the sophomore was cited in an Iowa City Police Department assault investigation in October. Adam Robinson ran for 941 yards and 10 TDs last season before his arrest for possession of marijuana. Coker took Robinson's place in the 2010 Insight Bowl and ran for 219 yards in a win over Missouri. Coker remained the No. 1 RB and piled up 1,384 yards rushing with 15 TDs.

Iowa running back Marcus Coker was suspended for the Insight Bowl against Oklahoma for reasons related to his conduct. Coker is the Big Ten's second-leading rusher.

That opened the door for Coker, who ran for 219 yards in a win over Missouri. He carried the momentum into his sophomore season rushing for 1,384 yards and 15 TDs. The problem this time around for the Hawkeyes and coach Kirk Ferentz is that there is no clear-cut backup. Redshirt freshman DeAndre Johnson is second on the team with all of 18 carries.
