Bengals selected Nebraska RB Rex Burkhead with the No. 190 overall pick.
Burkhead (5-foot-10 1/4, 214) ran 4.73 at the Combine, but he's a better prospect than that. He's a quick short-area mover with agility and athleticism (39" vertical, 10-foot-5 broad jump). Straight-line long speed is probably the most overrated running back measurable, as evidenced by Alfred Morris' 4.72 forty. Burkhead rushed 635 times for 3,332 yards (5.25 YPC) and 30 touchdowns at Nebraska, adding 60 catches. Although he lacks explosive talent, Burkhead runs with superb vision and aggression, and can pick up a blitz. Nebraska senior RB Rex Burkhead said that there was no swelling around his injured MCL after carrying the football 16 times for 69 yards against Iowa.

This is a great sign for the senior who has missed the majority of his final collegiate season. All signs point to Burkhead finishing the year with a clean bill of health, and that likely means we will see him at a postseason all star game.

Nebraska senior RB Rex Burkhead returned after missing four straight games to rush for 69 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries Friday against Iowa.

Burkhead had been dealing with a sprained MCL all season, but it is promising for his pre-draft process that the senior was able to play this week and likely next week to finish the year strong. His performance in other postseason activities will be telling, because 2012 has been a lost campaign.

Nebraska offensive coordinator Tim Beck stated that "it is hard to tell" if senior RB Rex Burkhead will play Saturday against Minnesota.

"A lot is going to depend on how Rex feels and what he can give us," Beck said. "Whatever that is and whenever that is we will be ready. We will welcome him back for sure." It has been a lost season for Burkhead, missing five games this season with a sprained MCL, including the last three.

This is turning into a lost season for Burkhead. The senior has only played heavily in three games this season, missing all or the majority of others with this lingering knee issue. He may be wise to sit out the rest of the season in order to heal properly.

Nebraska senior RB Rex Burkhead will not play Saturday against Michigan while continuing to deal with a lingering sprained MCL.

Burkhead played minimally against Northwestern after the knee issue started flaring up again. This is turning into a lost season for the senior since he has only seen more than eight carries twice. Perhaps the best plan of action would be to allow Burkhead to get fully healthy before he touches the field.

"Rex is ready to go," Pelini said. "He's about as 100 percent as he's going to get." Burkhead reinjured the MCL against Ohio State he sprained earlier in the season. The senior has only fully played a couple games this season, but expect him to get a large carry load Saturday.

Nebraska senior RB Rex Burkhead practiced Monday and is expected to play against Northwestern Saturday after suffering from a lingering sprained MCL.

Burkhead reinjured his left knee in the third quarter against Ohio State, but rehab during the bye week has helped significantly. Head coach Bo Pelini said Burkhead will play plenty if he’s "hitting on all cylinders." If he isn’t, Ameer Abdullah and Braylon Heard will see the majority of carries.

Despite slightly re-aggravating a sprained MCL in his knee, Nebraska senior RB Rex Burkhead is expected to play in the Cornhuskers next game against northwestern on October 20.

Burkhead missed two games earlier in the season due tot he injury. "We’re not going to do a lot with him in practice this week," head coach Bo Pelini said. "The injury wasn’t bad. We expect him to be full go for Northwestern."

Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini said that senior RB Rex Burkhead is "ok" after the Cornhusker appeared to aggravate the knee injury that forced him to miss two games.

Burkhead sprained his MCL in early September and appeared to have re-aggravated it during the third quarter of Saturday's game against Ohio State. "I don't think it's major. I don't think it's a long-term thing," head coach Bo Pelini said.

Nebraska senior RB Rex Burkhead rushed for 86 yards on 18 carries in Saturday's win over Wisconsin.

Burkhead didn't find the endzone, but we believe he looked like the best running back on the field. The senior's longest run, which went for 21 yards, was vintage Burkhead, in that he broke down the awaiting linebacker at the second level and carried him for another five yards while powerfully churning his legs.
