NFL scouts at Texas A&M-Commerce's pro day described RB Joe Bergeron to Tony Pauline as a "beast."
"[They stated] he looked good in drills and caught the ball very well," Pauline added. "The feeling is Bergeron will get a legitimate shot in camp this summer." Bergeron has the physical skills to make the transition to the sport's highest level, but many teams won't want to deal with the potential headache. Longhorns' coach Charlie Strong dismissed Bergeron not long after he arrived in town, and the running back allegedly punched, shoved and slapped a female student in October. Former Texas senior RB Joe Bergeron, now of D-II Texas A&M Commerce, allegedly punched, slapped and shoved a female student on Oct. 9.

"What we uncovered and found to be accurate was that he was involved in an incident off-campus," A&M-Commerce athletics director Ryan Ivey said. "We don’t believe that it was as severe as the incident report is." According to the police report, the victim and Bergeron’s group of friends argued at a bar in Commerce, a dispute that followed them to the Kappa Alpha fraternity house. Allegedly, the victim slapped Bergeron's cup from his hand and he responded by punching her in the face. She followed him inside, where he shoved her against a wall, according to the report, and then Bergeron slapped her when she approached again. The incident got Bergeron suspended for one week in October by Texas A&M-Commerce head coach Colby Carthel. "We talked to a number of people, those that were there, those that were outside of it," Ivey said. "We interviewed a number of people and just felt like what we did, the punishment fit his involvement."

He practiced for the first time on Saturday. New Longhorns' coach Charlie Strong dismissed Bergeron late last month, and we caught wind of Bergeron's interest in TAMUC 10 days ago. He's eligible to play immediately for A&M Commerce, and should post video game numbers at the NCAA Div. II level. Bergeron rushed 272 times for 1,392 yards and 25 touchdowns over the past three years at Texas.

Former Texas senior RB Joe Bergeron will transfer to Texas A&M Commerce, according to Taylor Gasper.

Bergeron was recently dismissed just a few days after Charlie Strong said he was "in the mix" at the running back position. He missed a large portion of spring activities for reasons that were never disclosed. Bergeron is very talented and will be eligible to play immediately for A&M Commerce.

Charlie Strong does not mess around. Two days after saying Bergeron run was back "in the mix" at the position, the talented running back is off the team. Bergeron missed a large portion of spring activities due to undisclosed issues that have been linked to academics. Johnathan Gray and Malcolm Brown will combine to make up the Horns' backfield.

Texas senior RB Joe Bergeron could be a "change of pace option" in the NFL, according to CBS Sports' Dane Brugler.

"His blend of quickness and strength for his body type makes him an intriguing change of pace option in the NFL, especially at the goal line and short-yardage situations," Brugler wrote. The 6-foot-1, 230 pound Bergeron has good body control and balance to break through arm tackles and absorb contact. The Longhorns prospect will share the backfield with Malcolm Brown and Johnathan Gray, who should get a bulk of the carries this season. Bergeron finished third on the team in rushing in 2013 with 386 yards, but did have the highest yards per carry average (5.0)of the three backs. Perhaps Bergeron can impress evaluators, and make the most of his carries this year, in the Longhorns crowded backfield.

Scouts Inc.'s Kevin Weidl is less impressed with Texas junior RB Joe Bergeron than his initial evaluation led on.

Bergeron is a "good back but not nearly as talented as Johnathan Gray," Weidl tweeted, referring to the junior's teammate at Texas. Weidl previously praised Bergeron's skill set for a 230 pound back, including his "vision/patience and lateral agility." Once again, Texas will deploy some intriguing skill position players.

Scouts Inc.'s Kevin Weidl really likes Texas junior RB Joe Bergeron's skill set at 230 pounds.

Weidl believes Bergeron has natural power and balance at his size, but his "vision/patience and lateral agility stand out on tape." Bergeron played in 12 games, starting six, in 2012 and rushed for 567 yards and a whopping 16 touchdowns on only 127 carries.

Freshman running back Joe Bergeron made the most of his second half against Kansas by rushing for 136 yards on 13 carries.

Bergeron had only 18 carries prior to Saturday. He was given a chance in the second half of a 43-0 rout of Kansas and made the most of his first extended action posting 13-136-2. Bergeron took over for fellow freshman Malcolm Brown, who was 28-119-2 in the first half. Whether the Longhorns now have a freshmen 1-2 punch remains to be seen, but Texas Tech is on deck for Saturday and the Red Raiders have not stopped anybody on the ground.
