Texans selected LSU RB Alfred Blue with the No. 181 overall pick in the NFL draft.
Blue (6-foot-2 3/8, 223) was a lightly-used, injury-riddled committee back for the Tigers, never topping 80 rushing attempts in a season despite averaging 6.0 career YPC. Already 23, Blue played behind Jeremy Hill last year. He managed 16 career receptions. Blue is slightly intriguing because he's built like Adrian Peterson with respectable speed (4.63) and short-area burst (10-foot-1 broad jump), but his lack of versatility and injury history suggest Blue's NFL tenure could be brief. LSU RB Alfred Blue will enter the NFL draft.

Blue had been granted a fifth season of eligibility by the NCAA due to the hardship rule, but he decided to decline and move on. The Tigers' running back missed all but three games in 2012 after suffering a knee injury against Idaho, presenting the possibility. The bruising Blue (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) never rushed for more than 539 yards in four seasons at LSU.

LSU senior RB Alfred Blue plans on leaving for the NFL following this season despite earning an extra year of eligibility from the NCAA.

"Blue is planning to be one of the 15 seniors participating in Senior Day activities before Friday's season finale with Arkansas," according to Jim Kleinpeter of the Times-Picayune. The senior was awarded an extra season because of injuries, but he reportedly will not use it. LSU could also lose Jeremy Hill and Kenny Hilliard to the NFL.

LSU senior RB Alfred Blue has been awarded an extra season of eligibility and will return in 2014.

Blue suffered a season ending injury against Idaho and underwent surgery. The senior had never redshirted, so he is eligible to return for one more season. He could see plenty of snaps, since reports state leading rusher Jeremy Hill will declare for May's draft.

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah notes LSU senior RB Alfred Blue "is a smooth, gliding runner with excellent hands."

Speaking of Blue, Jeremiah observed the running back "lacks ideal stop/start quicks but he finishes every run." LSU deployed a talented group of runners last season, and Blue will have to battle for carries with Jeremy Hill, but the latter will likely miss a few games due to suspension.

LSU head coach Les Miles did not offer a timetable for starting junior RB Alfred Blue's return from a knee injury suffered against Idaho.

"I'm not overly optimistic," Miles said when asked about Blue's injury. "I think he's going to come back, but I don't know the length of time." After that answer, Miles was asked specifically if Blue could miss the remainder of the season, and responded with he "might." The Tigers will continue to use a committee approach at the position, so sophomore Kenny Hilliard and juniors Michael Ford and Spencer Ware will continue to split reps.

LSU starting junior RB Alfred Blue suffered a knee injury against Idaho that will keep him out during this weekend's matchup with Auburn and likely several more weeks after that.

The injury is likely an MCL or ACL strain, which takes four to five weeks of recovery. Blue started the season by eclipsing the 100 yard mark in two games and was averaging 6.8 yards per carry along with two touchdowns. The Tigers use a committee approach at the running back position, so sophomore Kenny Hilliard and juniors Michael Ford and Spencer Ware will continue to split reps.
