LSU senior RB Kenny Hilliard "is at his best as a battering ram in short yardage situations," according to CBS Sports' Rob Rang.
"Hilliard possesses surprising light feet which help him accelerate quickly when the hole is there but is at his best as a battering ram in short yardage situations -- a valued role given the committee-approach NFL teams are taking now," Rang wrote. Hilliard heads into his final season as LSU's most experienced running back on offense, with 37 games to his resume. The LSU prospect has rushed for 1,110 yards and 21 touchdowns during his career. LSU junior RB Kenny Hilliard has dropped weight and is currently tipping the scales at 228 pounds.

It is the lightest Hilliard has been since stepping foot on campus. "I'd wake up early at 5 a.m. and run on the treadmill," Hilliard said. "I had to. They wanted me down. I had to listen to my head coach." As always, the Tigers' backfield is crowded, with sophomore Jeremy Hill and Alfred Blue, but Hilliard could secure some touches.

After biding his time working out at fullback, LSU’s Kenny Hilliard has been making some nice contributions as a tailback.

Hilliard’s recent play has gone well beyond the goal-line and other short-yardage situations with which he was utilized earlier in the season. Much of the credit for LSU’s 41-3 run against Arkansas last week after falling behind 14-0 goes to Hilliard. The freshman easily had season highs with 19 carries and 102 yards and he also had his sixth TD. The week before at Ole Miss, Hilliard was 9-59-1. That's 28-161-2 in the last two games after only 21 carries in the first 10 games.
