For Brett Nottingham, the competition is and will remain tight in the battle to take over for Andrew Luck.

Josh Nunes is giving Nottingham a run for his money, which was not unexpected. Though he was Luck’s primary backup last season, Nottingham has all of eight career pass attempts. He and Nunes will continue to compete in fall practice and, given how the spring unraveled, it would be hard to imagine either QB creating much separation.

Brett Nottingham was the primary backup to Heisman candidate Andrew Luck last season, but there is plenty of company in the battle for the starting job.

Nottingham threw only eight passes as a sophomore last season, completing five for 78 yards and a TD. Safe to say he does not have a whole lot of experience, but he has good size and a full year in coach David Shaw's system. Still, Shaw points out that Josh Nunes could have been the No. 2 if not for an injury. The battle between Nottingham, Nunes and three others started Monday.
