Oklahoma junior WRs Jaz Reynolds and Trey Franks, along with sophomore DB Quentin Hayes, were reinstated to the football team Wednesday.
The timing is relevant, as the Sooners open fall practice in a matter of days. Throughout the offseason, head coach Bob Stoops deferred comment on the suspended players that violated team rules this spring, which resulted in the players' scholarships being taken away. The three are now back, with Reynolds and Franks highlighting the group due to the Sooners' lack of depth at the receiver position. ESPN's Joe Schad later added that the three players are expected to be suspended for multiple games. Sophomore receiver Kameel Jackson was another player on thin ice, and despite being on scholarship all summer his future with the team is still uncertain. Wed, Aug 1, 2012 02:57:00 PM

Jaz Reynolds among Sooners who had their scholarships stripped.

Receivers Reynolds and Trey Franks and DB Quentin Hayes had their scholarships taken away while another receiver, Kameel Jackson, has a scholarship for the summer only and will have a chance to earn one in the fall. All were in violation of team rules this spring and were suspended. Reynolds has had previous discipline issues at OU, which have gotten in the way of what could have been a fine career with the Sooners. Reynolds, who would be a junior in the fall, caught 41 passes for 715 yards and 5 TDs last season. He has 54 career catches. Franks has 51 career receptions, 22 coming last year.

WR Jaz Reynolds was among four Sooners suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules.

Reynolds and fellow receivers Trey Franks and Kameel Jackson were also suspended along with DB Quentin Hayes. Reynolds is the Sooners second-leading returning receiver with 41 receptions for 715 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2011. Reynolds was suspended for his entire freshman season of 2010 following inappropriate use of social media. Jackson announced last week that he was trsnsferring to Texas A&M. He was still enrolled at OU.

Jaz Reynolds is going all out this spring after suffering a kidney injury late last season.

Reynolds was injured during the last regular season game against Oklahoma State, but he is back strong and does not feel there will be lingering effects. That’s a good thing because the Sooners need help at receiver with Ryan Broyles gone. While Kenny Stills (61 receptions) had a strong sophomore season, Reynolds is the only other returning WR that caught more than 22 passes last season. Reynolds, who will also be a junior, was 41-715 for a team-best 17.4 yards per catch with 5 touchdowns in 2011.

Oklahoma receiver Jaz Reynolds has recovered from a bruised kidney and will be available for spring practice.

It appeared as though Reynolds’ career may have been in jeopardy as a result of the injury, which he suffered in the regular-season finale against Oklahoma State. Coach Bob Stoops said Reynolds still has to undergo a procedure after spring practice, but it is nothing that will derail his return. Reynolds’ availability is great news for the Sooners, who said goodbye to Ryan Broyles. Last season Reynolds was 41-715-5, good for second to Kenny Stills among returning receivers in all three categories.
