Corbin Berkstresser charged with misdemeanor, can apply for reinstatement to team.
Because the initial vehicle damage from his hit-and-run incident on May 15 was estimated at more than $1,000, Berkstresser was facing a felony charge and was instantly suspended from the team per university bylaws. As it turns out, the charge is a misdemeanor, but Berkstresser still has to apply to be reinstated. The Tigers’ No. 2 quarterback still may face some team discipline. Mon, Jun 4, 2012 11:41:00 AM

Corbin Berkstresser was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident.

The incident involved hitting a parked car and there were no injuries. It seems like a simple case that will not linger. That is a good thing because leaving the scene of an accident is a felony and, according to university police, an athlete cannot return to action until a felony case is resolved. Berkstresser was the Tigers’ No. 1 QB during the spring while starter James Franklin was shelved due to injury. Berkstresser, who will be a redshirt freshman, was on the scout team last fall.

With starter James Franklin sidelined with a sprained shoulder, Corbin Berkstresser ran Mizzou’s No. 1 offense during a scrimmage and earned plaudits from coach Gary Pinkel.

For what it is worth in a scrimmage (not much) Berkstresser’s stats were far from sterling. Most important, though, he showed improved understanding of the Tigers’ offense and otherwise had some key throws. Berkstresser did not throw a pass as a freshman last season, but is in line to be Franklin’s top backup in 2012.
