The Orange County Register reports that it's "more than likely" that USC redshirt junior RB Tre Madden and senior LB Lamar Dawson won't play again this season.
A final decision will be made within the next seven days. Dawson, who hasn't played this year, underwent knee surgery last season and is leaning toward redshirting. "If you held a gun to my head today, I would imagine that Lamar would redshirt and we would have him available for spring practice and ready for the fall," USC coach Steve Sarkisian said. Madden suffered a turf-toe injury in summer camp. The Trojans thought they were close to getting him back last week but then the junior suffered another setback. "Obviously, he is really frustrated," Sarkisian said. "We were all excited to see Tre play and thought he was poised for a really good season. He had a great spring practice, a really good training camp, and, boom, you get turf toe." If Madden doesn't play this year, he could conceivably apply for a waiver that would allow him to retain two seasons of eligibility. Oct 8 - 8:58 PM

The Orange County Register reports that USC Coach Steve Sarkisian indicated that redshirt junior RB Tre Madden will probably sit out Saturday’s game at Boston College.

"He’s a lot further along than where he was 2½ weeks ago. (But) he’s not 100 percent," Sarkisian said. "I’m hopeful we can get through this game, get through the bye and then get him ready to go for Oregon State (on Sept. 27) so that thing’s not lingering." The 6-foot-1, 225 pound Madden, was moved up on the depth chart this week, but it looks like Sarkisian would like Madden to be fully healthy before he makes his way back into the lineup.

The Los Angeles Daily News reports that USC redshirt junior RB Tre Madden could be out for a month because of his turf toe injury.

Originally Madden was thought to be a game-time decision, but if he happened to miss up to a month, Madden would miss the Trojans' opener against Fresno St., the Pac-12 opener against Stanford, and Boston College Sept. 13th. After a bye, USC will face Oregon State on Sept. 27th, which could be a target date for Madden's likely return, if the injury report holds up. Madden suffered the lingering toe injury in summer camp and has not been able to shake the pain.

USC redshirt junior RB Tre Madden (toe) is considered questionable for the opener against Fresno State and will be a game-time decision.

"[W]e’re taking every precautionary action we can to make sure that Tre is great and ready to go when his time is called again," coach Steve Sarkisian said. Madden suffered a lingering toe injury in summer camp and has not been able to shake the pain. Sarkisian said the running back, who has been wearing a walking boot on his right foot, is "probably a game-time decision." "When you start messing with a running back and his feet or his toes, his ability to push off, they just don’t overnight, all of a sudden, get better," Sarkisian said. "We’re trying to maximize his rest. We’re trying to keep him off his feet as best we can to get him as healthy as quickly as we can and hopefully have him ready to go for next Saturday."

USC redshirt sophomore RB Tre Madden is considered questionable for Saturday's game against Notre Dame.

Madden injured his hamstring during the game against Arizona. The former linebacker had been running as the team's top ball carrier, totaling 611 yards and three touchdowns this season. The school could lean on Silas Redd if Madden is out, which they did in the second half against Arizona.

Tre Madden, who moved to running back from linebacker this spring, will miss the 2012 season after tearing a ligament in his left knee.

Coach Lane Kiffin moved Madden to running back to help build depth in an offensive backfield that was decimated by injuries last season. It would have been interesting to see how Madden would have fared during the spring game, but those plans are on hold for at least another year. Madden played all 12 games as a backup linebacker and special teamer in 2011.

For at least the time being, USC is moving Tre Madden from linebacker to tailback.

Madden was recruited as a linebacker and was also a quarterback running the wildcat in high school, so this should not be an awkward transition. It is a move, which may not be long-term, being made because the Trojans need to build depth in the offensive backfield with injuries hindering the position this spring. In addition, Madden provides size (6-0, 220) that the incumbents lack. He appeared in all 12 games last season as a backup LB and special teamer.
