Cincinnati sided with RB Jeremey Hill over RB Carlos Hyde in the second round due to Hill's experience in a pro-style offense and pass protection ability.
Hill did not receive the "six-feet-wide holes to run through" afforded RBs in "spread-out, zone-read option" offenses, such as Carlos Hyde, according to Bengals RB coach Kyle Caskey. Hill isn't going to make things easy on Benjarvus Green-Ellis in the race to complement Giovani Bernard as the Bengals' short-yardage and goal line back. May 10 - 11:47 AM

Bengals selected LSU RB Jeremy Hill with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

Hill (6-foot 5/8, 233) spent two seasons as LSU's lead back, rushing for 2,156 yards and 28 TDs on 345 carries (6.25 YPC). He has size to stonewall linebackers and smaller defensive ends in pass protection, and soft hands despite only 26 career catches. Hill ran 4.66 with a 29-inch vertical and 9-foot-5 broad jump at the Combine. Although quick footed for his build, Hill runs with inconsistent physicality and is a straight-linish back who won't make NFL defenders miss. He has some potential to be a disappointment. This could end BenJarvus Green-Ellis' tenure in Cincinnati, as the Bengals can save $2.5 million by cutting him. Hill will likely be the No. 2 back in Cincinnati.

The Ravens will take a running back before Round 5, reports draft insider Tony Pauline, and LSU's Jeremy Hill and Towson's Terrance West have been "connected with the team for a while."

Tennessee and Atlanta are two other potential Hill destinations, Pauline passes along, adding: "Hill has been drawing rave reviews from scouts for his underrated pass catching skills." The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Hill has garnered comparisons to LaGarrette Blount, though he's more skilled. As for West, so many experts slapped a "sleeper" tag on the 5-foot-9, 225-pounder that he might no longer be so. His intriguing combo of size and speed has scouts salivating.

LSU RB Jeremy Hill finished only three points behind Carlos Hyde for top RB prospect honors in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's poll of 18 NFL scouts.

"That big (expletive) is faster and a better athlete than Hyde, and he catches the (expletive) out of it," a scout said. "Damn right I like him as a starter." Hyde earned nine first-place votes and 72 points, while Hill finished with 69 points and seven first-place votes. Bishop Sankey (43) and Tre Mason (35) finished third and fourth respectively, each garnering one first-place vote. Andre Williams (13), Terrance West (11) and Devonte Freeman (10) rounded out the top eight. "He's a complete back," another scout said of Hill. "He can be an every-down player and carry the load. He's really good in the passing game, too. Smooth runner. Natural run instincts."

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports that LSU RB Jeremy Hill visited the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday.

"LSU RB Jeremy Hill is in Cincy today visiting with Bengals. Has visited with Bills, Titans & Jaguars. He has one more visit this week," Rapoport tweeted. The previous mentioned teams would easily welcome Hill's punishing downhill running style to their rushing attack. Hill has generated some buzz as of late, and is battling Ohio State's Carlos Hyde to have his name called first, amongst this year's crop of running backs. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Hill has drawn comparisons to LaGarrette Blount.

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah tweeted most of the teams he talks to prefer LSU RB Jeremy Hill over Ohio State's Carlos Hyde.

We are extremely surprised to hear this, as Hyde has consistently been mentioned as the top running back. Hill does have a higher tackle breaking percentage, but both runners excel at picking up yards after contact. Hyde did take a large step forward this year.

LSU RB Jeremy Hill visited the Bills this week.

Hill is an upright runner who breaks tackles once picking up speed. Teams will have questions about his checkered past off the field, but it is difficult to know how much that will impact his evaluation. He should, at best, be a third-round pick.

LSU RB Jeremy Hill had his probation lifted by a judge Wednesday.

Hill was placed on two-years probation for sucker punching a man in a parking lot outside of a Baton Rouge bar. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Hill has been on probation in the past for a sexual incident when he was in high school. Hill sent a letter to all 32 NFL teams in advance of the NFL Scouting Combine in which he discussed both arrests and included character references. One hopes Hill has cleaned up his act, as he's talented enough to carve out a long pro career.

LSU RB Jeremy Hill possesses "deceptive quickness and agility for a 230-pound back," according to NFL Films' Greg Cosell.

Having declared for the draft after his redshirt sophomore season, Hill is one of the draft's youngest RBs. "I thought he was excellent at getting through small cracks at the point of attack, and that is an absolutely necessary trait in the NFL," Cosell said. The analyst also likes that Hill mostly ran out of NFL formations with the Tigers. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Hill has garnered comparisons to LaGarrette Blount.
Mar 20 - 3:07 PM

LSU RB Jeremy Hill weighed in at 6-foot-1 and 233 pounds at the NFL Combine.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport noted Hill "mailed a letter to 32 teams, being proactive and detailing his two arrests." Apparently the package includes pages of character references during his time at LSU. Hill also has 32 and 5/8 inch arms and 10 and 3/8 inch hands.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport stated that LSU RB Jeremy Hill mailed a letter to every NFL team detailing his two arrests.

"LSU RB Jeremy Hill mailed a letter to 32 teams, being proactive & detailing his 2 arrests. Package includes pages of character references," Rapoport tweeted. The punishing down-hill runner is definitely a high risk/reward type of player. An NFL GM will have to believe that Hill is ready to make a change for the better. Hill has the tools to be successful at the next level, but he'll have to keep his nose out of trouble, since he's on probation until July 2015.
Feb 21 - 3:44 PM

LSU RB Jeremy Hill will be hurt on draft day by his troubled past, NFL.com's Mike Mayock believes.

Hill's criminal record includes two incidents and he won't get off probation until July, 2015. "I think he's going to look good at the combine," Mayock said. "He's got really good feet for his size. The bigger thing for this kid is being able to look teams in the eye and explain what he did and why he did it. ... He's certainly a risk/reward guy. ... If he was clean off the field, I'd say second round in a heartbeat. With a second-round offensive grade, he'd be fortunate to go in the third or the fourth." The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder has drawn comparisons to LaGarrette Blount.

Scouts will look into LSU RB Jeremy Hill's "character, maturity and stability," according to NFL.com's Nolan Nawrocki.

Hill's criminal record already includes two incidents and he won't get off probation until July, 2015. "Big, thickly built, athletic slasher with an overinflated sense of his abilities and character red flags, which could cause some teams to shy away," observed Nawrocki. NFL.com's Gil Brant ranked Hill as the No. 26 overall prospect in the class last month. The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder has drawn comparisons to LaGarrette Blount.

Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel believes that LSU RB Jeremy Hill runs like LaGarrette Blount.

Like Blount, Hill, an early entree into the draft, is a powerful downhill runner. NFL.com's Gil Brant ranked Hill as the No. 26 overall prospect in the class last month, ahead of Arizona's Ka'Deem Carey (36), Auburn's Tre Mason (43) and Ohio State's Carlos Hyde (44). Hill can break tackle beyond the line of scrimmage and has fairly good receiving ability for a huge back. That said, Dunne notes that teams will dig into his past, as Hill was once arrested for simple battery at a bar.
Feb 4 - 6:28 PM

NFL.com's Gil Brant ranks LSU redshirt sophomore RB Jeremy Hill as the No. 26 overall prospect in the class.

No reason was given other than Hill's production this season. Brandt ranked Arizona's Ka'Deem Carey at No. 36, Auburn's Tre Mason at No. 43, and Ohio State's Carlos Hyde at No. 44. Hill can break tackle beyond the line of scrimmage and has fairly good receiving ability for a man his size.
