Pittsburgh junior RB Isaac Bennett "exhibits only marginal burst and lacks top-end speed," according to CBS Sports' Derek Stephens.
A 13-game starter as a sophomore, Bennett collected 797 rushing yards (4.7 ypc) and caught 10 passes for 58 yards last year. "Demonstrates quick feet, toughness and good hands out of the backfield, but exhibits only marginal burst and lacks top-end speed to pull away," Stephens wrote. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Bennett runs only a 4.74 forty, which won't hack it at the next level. Sat, Jul 26, 2014 04:22:00 PM

Pittsburgh junior RB Isaac Bennett will require surgery on his sprained left shoulder.

Both Bennett and his competition for the starting job, James Conner (knee sprain), are currently out but expected to return by fall camp. Last season, Bennett ran for 797 yards and seven touchdowns, while Conner finished with 799 yards and eight scores. Pittsburgh coach Paul Chryst said the surgery was necessary and promised Bennett will "do everything he can to rehab."

Pittsburgh junior RB Isaac Bennett returned to practice on a limited basis on Wednesday.

"It was good to get Isaac back getting some work done," head coach Paul Chryst said. "He's moving all right. Certainly, there is a lot he has to keep doing." Bennett had been dealing with a knee injury and was forced to wear a brace through other activities. He has missed all but four days of camp.

Bennett is picking up this spring where he left off last fall: filling in for injured Ray Graham. Hopefully for the Panthers, Graham will be at least close to 100 percent come fall practice. That said, Bennett is getting a good look from first-year coach Paul Chryst after rushing for 237 yards (all in the final five games) as a freshman last season. A healthy Graham means Bennett will be in line to be the primary backup.
