Mississippi State senior RB LaDarius Perkins could turn some heads during his final season, according to CBS Sports' Dane Brugler.
"Perkins has outstanding plant-and-go acceleration, doing a nice job side-stepping defenders with strong footwork to make clean cuts," Brugler writes. "He has a compactly-built upper body and keeps his legs pumping with balance to pick up chunks of yards after initial contact. Perkins' vision runs hot/cold too often, and he struggles to improvise at times when the hole isn't there, but he has the lateral agility and quick feet to scamper from defenders." May 14 - 10:34 AM

Mississippi State junior RB LaDarius Perkins will test NFL waters by requesting an evaluation from the Draft Advisory Board.

2012 was Perkins' first season as a full-time starter due to the departure of Vick Ballard. The Bulldogs offense was much more consistent this season and Perkins benefited from some kind of a passing game. We would expect the junior to return to school.

LaDarius Perkins may not be alone in replacing Vick Ballard in the MSU backfield.

While Perkins will certainly get his share of reps, he could split time with Nick Griffin. Both runners bring a different style to the offense and could ultimately provide for a solid duo. Bulldogs fans have seen plenty of Perkins the last two seasons. In backing up Ballard, the junior-to-be has rushed for 988 yards and 5 touchdowns while adding 306 yards and 5 more TDs via the air.

Smaller than most SEC running backs, LaDarius Perkins is the favorite to take over for Vick Ballard as the Bulldogs’ every-down back.

Though listed a 5-11, which may be generous, Perkins is a muscular specimen who coaches feel can handle the punishment of being an every-down back in the SEC. The key will be to keep Perkins fresh by getting a couple of other RBs – Nick Griffin and Josh Robinson in particular – some totes early in 2012. Playing behind Ballard last season, Perkins had 87 carries for 422 yards (4.9 ypc) and a pair of TDs. Perkins, who will be a junior, also caught 13 passes. He ran for 566 yards (5.6) as a freshman in 2010.
