Northwestern WR Tony Jones (ankle) was unable to work out at the school's pro day, reported TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline.
Jones sprained his ankle a few days before Northwestern's initial pro day, and he couldn't give it a go at their second event, either. "I've been informed he will take the field for scouts on April 9 along with quarterback Trevor Siemian and former Wildcat Venric Mark, who played for West Texas A&M last season," Pauline wrote. Jones has "excellent burst in his cuts and is at his best on crossing routes when he can catch in stride and be dangerous after the reception," according to CBS Sports' Dane Brugler. Northwestern redshirt senior WR Tony Jones is "dangerous after the reception," notes CBS Sports' Dane Brugler.

The 6-foot, 195-pounder led the team with 55 receptions last year. "Jones has excellent burst in his cuts and is at his best on crossing routes when he can catch in stride and be dangerous after the reception," Brugler wrote. "He can be slowed down by defenders too easily, but has the short-area foot quickness to create some separation and the balance to shake off would-be tacklers."

Healthy Tony Jones feels the Wildcats possess a cast of receivers that can be the best in the Big Ten.

For that to have a chance, Jones must prove he is entirely healthy after losing the 2011 season due to a torn right PCL. He’s back strong this spring and, in the eyes of coach Pat Fitzgerald, does not appear tentative. Jones had his redshirt burned after four games in 2010. He went 11-157-1 receiving in seven games of that abbreviated freshman campaign.
