Tennessee junior RB Marlin Lane is 50/50 to play against Georgia, according to head coach Butch Jones.

Lane is the school's second leading rusher, totaling 280 yards and four touchdowns. Tennessee has been very vague regarding his injury, saying it was to the lower body. He is running behind Rajion Neal, but the Vols offense will likely struggle regardless.

Tennessee junior RB Marlin Lane was not listed on the school's initial depth chart.

Lane missed time this spring for what was deemed as "disciplinary reasons" but was reinstated to the team in June. Perhaps head coach Butch Jones wants the junior to earn his playing time this season. Senior Rajion Neal and redshirt freshman Alden Hill were the two backs listed on the two-deep.

Tennessee junior RB Marlin Lane is "absolutely on the path" to rejoining the team, according to head coach Butch Jones.

Lane was deemed out indefinitely, for what was tabbed as disciplinary reasons, which came a week after Lane missed time for a family illness. "We’re just taking it one day at a time with Marlin," Jones said. "He knows what he has to do to be reinstated at this time."

Tennessee has begun auditioning players from both sides of the ball to feature in their wildcat formation.

Sophomore running back Marlin Lane has the inside track for the position after rushing for 280 yards on 75 carries last season, but freshmen linebacker Justin King and receiver Alton Howard have also had chances. "We're just searching, really, to see who's going to emerge," head coach Derek Dooley said. "We're just finding different ways to do things when what you believe in isn't working, or to be able to supplement what you do on offense."

Marlin Lane is working on hitting the holes and taking what is there.

Too often last season Lane was anxious to break outside – where everything bogged down. This spring he is faster and more physical while allowing his ample talent to take over instead of attempting to create something that might not be there. As a freshman last season, Lane had 620 all-purpose yards (280 rushing, 3.7 ypc) and totaled 4 TDs.
