Raiders selected Tennessee TE Mychal Rivera with the No. 184 overall pick.
Rivera (6-3, 242) caught 36 balls for 562 yards (15.6 YPR) and five TDs in 2012, sharing Tyler Bray's targets with Justin Hunter and Cordarrelle Patterson. He ran a 4.81 40-yard dash at the Combine, which is startlingly slow considering his size. He also managed only 17 bench-press reps. He's a project for a Raiders team that's barren at tight end. Tennessee TE Mychal Rivera has been added to the Senior Bowl in place of Auburn's Phil Lutzenkirchen.

Rivera's name has rarely been mentioned throughout the start of the draft process, but this is a great call from Phil Savage and the rest of the Senior Bowl. The Vol has experience as an inline receiving option or detached from the line of scrimmage, similar to Lutzenkirchen. A mid third day pick appears likely.

Tennessee senior TE Mychal Rivera went off for 10 catches for 129 yards and one touchdown Saturday against Missouri.

Prior to this season, we thought Rivera lacked fluidity and tended to fight the football into his hands. This season, however, the senior has been able to beat defenders at the second level and looks much more comfortable in space. We expect Rivera to be drafted on the third day.

Tennessee senior TE Mychal Rivera remains sidelined after suffering a knee sprain during the first week of preseason camp.

According to beat writer Daniel Lewis, Rivera "isn’t moving well and isn’t doing much." The initial prognosis stated that Rivera would miss one week, but the injury has not healed as expected. The senior is an underrated tight end prospect that flashes movement skills working between the numbers but needs to become a more consistent hands catcher.

Mychal Rivera has been lining up at multiple positions, not just tight end this spring.

That’s fine with the versatile Rivera, who caught 29 passes for 344 yards as a junior last season. OC Jim Chaney wants to take advantage of Rivera’s athleticism – as well as that of the other TE’s – in an effort to get as much talent on the field at the same time as possible.
