West Virginia redshirt senior QB Clint Trickett "doesn't have the body type that scouts seek at the position, but his confidence and accuracy are much improved from a year ago," writes CBS Sports' Dane Brugler.
An NFL scout would have begun daydreaming if you wanted to discuss Trickett over the winter, but they're all paying attention now. As Brugler alluded, the 6-foot-2, 176-pound Trickett needs to spend time in the weight room in order to develop his body enough to handle the rigors of taking shots from pro defenders. However, he's been just fine in the early going. He is 101-for-134 (75.4%) for 1,224 yards, seven touchdowns and an interception through three games. Sep 19 - 8:02 PM

West Virginia redshirt senior QB Clint Trickett completed 37-of-49 passes for 511 yards, four touchdowns and an interception in Saturday's 40-37 triumph against Maryland.

Trickett didn't enter the season on the NFL's radar, but he's on it now. In the season opener, his outstanding performance put a scare into Alabama. In Week 2, he played flawlessly against Towson, and, over the weekend, he put on his best vintage Geno Smith impersonation (Trickett's 511 yards were the second-most in school history behind Geno Smith's 656-yard, 8 TD game against Baylor in 2012). Overall, Trickett is 101-for-134 (75.4%) for 1,224 yards, seven touchdowns and an interception through three games. After completing just 52.8 percent of his passes last season, CBS Sports' Dane Brugler wrote over the summer that it was imperative for Trickett to improve his accuracy to have any chance at playing in the NFL. Mission accomplished so far.

West Virginia redshirt senior QB Clint Trickett completed 29 of 45 passes for 365 yards and a score in the school's 33-23 loss to Alabama.

Trickett had a solid outing in West Virginia's opener, showing good awareness and great accuracy against Alabama. The Mountaineers' prospect played with confidence and did not shy away from testing Alabama secondary early and often in the game. While Trickett does not possess an ideal frame for the next level, at 6-foot-2, 186 pounds, he'll definitely put evaluators on notice, if his awareness and accuracy continues to improve.

West Virginia HC Dana Holgorsen has named redshirt senior Clint Trickett the school's starting QB.

Trickett "worked hard last season and showed a lot of ability and leadership and deserves the chance to lead the team as a senior. He will be our starter," Holgorsen said. After transferring from FSU, Trickett started seven games but did not look overly impressive in any contest. It could be a make or break season for Holgorsen, and the team's high powered offense with Geno Smith, Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey will be tough to replicate.

West Virginia senior QB Clint Trickett must improve on his accuracy to have any chance at the NFL, CBS Sports' Dane Brugler writes.

Trickett completed just 52.8 percent of his passes last season. He has received more attention than his talent deserves during his career, owing to the fact that he started games at Florida State and then walked into a seemingly perfect situation with the Mountaineers last year. Despite having a stellar running game and a creative coach, Trickett was unable to consistently move the chains. We don't see him as an NFL prospect.

West Virginia senior QB Clint Trickett was knocked out of Saturday's game against Texas.

Trickett fumbled on a Desmond Jackson sack in the first quarter. Trickett remained on the turf for several moments and then stumbled back to the sidelines. Backup signal caller Paul Millard replaced Trickett.

West Virginia senior QB Clint Trickett will start for the second time, as the school takes on Baylor.

Trickett helped lead the Mountaineers over Oklahoma State last weekend. This isn't the same Mountaineer offense as last year, and we think they should heavily rely on running back Charles Sims. Baylor is still posting huge numbers thanks to Bryce Petty's efficiency.

West Virginia Dana Holgorsen said senior Clint Trickett would start over redshirt freshman Ford Childress at quarterback if both are completely healthy.

Trickett is dealing with a sore shoulder and Childress has been working through a torn chest muscle sustained in the Maryland game. This isn't good news for WVU with a trip to Waco on deck. Las Vegas doesn't seem to care who starts for the Mountaineers; Baylor is a 27.5-point favorite and it wouldn't be a surprise if that number climbs over four touchdowns by kickoff.

Former Florida State senior Clint Trickett has been named West Virginia's starting QB versus Oklahoma State.

Ford Childress, the starter the last two weeks, suffered a torn muscle in his chest against Maryland. Trickett has some starting experience with the Seminoles, filling in for an injured EJ Manuel, but lost out on two quarterback competitions once joining the Mountaineers.

West Virginia senior Clint Trickett and junior Paul Millard will both see snaps at QB against William and Mary.

Head coach Dana Holgorsen emphatically stated he would not use a quarterback by committee approach during the summer, but here we are. Neither passer ran away with the competition, but both should show well against a program like William and Mary. The Mountaineers could rely on senior running back transfer Charles Sims.

West Virginia senior QB Clint Trickett as seen a "good share" of the school's first team reps during practice time open to the media.

Trickett is a graduate transfer from Florida State and appears to be in a camp battle with redshirt freshman Ford Childress. Head coach Dana Holgorsen previously stated he does not want to use a quarterback rotation this season, so the opening game starter should have a fairly long leash.

West Virginia HC Dana Holgorsen said he will not use a quarterback rotation this season.

"Never done it, don't plan on doing it," Holgorsen said of a two-quarterback system involving senior Clint Trickett and redshirt freshman Ford Childress. Trickett started twice at Florida State as E.J. Manuel's backup at Florida State. He threw seven touchdown passes as a freshman in 2011. Childress, meanwhile, has never taken a college snap. Holgorsen said last month that Childress might have the most potential of any quarterback on the roster.

West Virginia HC Dana Holgorsen said he has not promised senior QB Clint Trickett the starting job.

When asked who will be the opening day starter, Holgorsen answered, "I don't know... Clint Trickett has been around, but I haven't promised him he would start." The head coach added Ford Childress might have the most potential of any quarterback on the roster.

Former FSU junior QB Clint Trickett is transferring to West Virginia, according to ESPN's Joe Schad.

Schad also notes that Trickett, "is eligible to compete for the starting position this season." He added "Trickett chose West Virginia over USF and Auburn. Trickett believes he is an ideal fit for the West Virginia offense." It will surely be an interesting quarterback competition for Dana Holgorsen this summer.

Florida State junior QB Clint Trickett has been granted his release from the program.

"After a long meeting with Clint, he expressed he'd like to explore another playing opportunity, and I've signed off on his wish," head coach Jimbo Fisher said. Trickett had a chance to start in 2013, but it appears freshman Jameis Winston is in line for that spot now. Trickett is rumored to be interested in visiting USF and West Virginia, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
