West Virginia redshirt senior QB Clint Trickett is retiring from football due to concussions and will not play in the school's bowl game.
Trickett told the media he has suffered five concussions in the past 14 months, hiding two from trainers. Sophomore Skyler Howard should start in his place. West Virginia redshirt senior QB Clint Trickett will not start against Iowa State due to a concussion.

Skyler Howard will start in his place. The Mountaineers are on a three game losing streak, and Trickett has thrown five interceptions and one touchdown in that span. Howard has only attempted 25 passes all season, but will have one of the best receivers in the country to target in Kevin White.

West Virginia redshirt senior QB Clint Trickett "has a slight build that doesn't project well to the next level," according to CBS Sports' Rob Rang.

Trickett was horrific in Thursday's loss to Kansas State, completing 12-of-25 passes for 112 yards and two interceptions. In the third quarter, he was escorted to the locker room with an undisclosed injury, not to return. West Virginia backup quarterback Skyler Howard will remain on call in case Trickett face plants again in the coming weeks.

West Virginia redshirt senior QB Clint Trickett completed 12-of-25 passes for 112 yards and two interceptions in Thursday's loss to Kansas State.

The signal caller was escorted to the locker room in the third quarter not to return, though it's not clear if he suffered an injury or was just benched. Trickett entered the game ranked sixth nationally with 3,173 yards passing yards. He promptly turned into a pumpkin against the wizard known as Bill Snyder. Trickett is undersized (6-foot-2, 186-pounds) and non-athletic, so he's far from assured of getting drafted. Either way, he's going to be in a camp next summer with an opportunity to crack a roster. That thought would have been unthinkable over the summer.

West Virginia redshirt senior QB Clint Trickett completed 36-of-49 passes for 248 yards and an interception on Saturday.

This was Trickett's first game of the season in which he didn't throw for a touchdown. While the senior was his usual efficient self against the Longhorns (he completed 73.5% of his passes and has only been under 60% on completions in one game this season), he simply doesn't have the athletic tools to create game-breaking plays when the defense isn't making mistakes.

West Virginia redshirt senior QB Clint Trickett "has an uphill climb to be drafted next spring due to his lack of size and game tapes like Saturday won't help his case," according to CBS Sports' Dane Brugler.

"Against TCU's disciplined defense, he predetermined several throws and struggled to put much touch on his downfield attempts, making it easy on secondary defenders by leading them to the ball with his eyes. Trickett has an uphill climb to be drafted next spring due to his lack of size and game tapes like Saturday won't help his case," Brugler writes. The 6-foot-2, 186-pound Trickett completed 15-of-26 passes for 162 yards, while throwing one touchdown against two interceptions in a tough loss to TCU. Brugler adds that it was Trickett's "decision-making" that "hurt the Mountaineers" against TCU.

West Virginia redshirt senior QB Clint Trickett completed 15-of-26 passes for 162 yards on Saturday.

Trickett threw one touchdown against two interceptions in the tough loss to TCU. He shouldn't feel too badly about the poor performance, though, as his counterpart on the Horned Frogs, Trevone Boykin, also struggled. It was just one of those days for what had been two efficient, well-oiled offenses. This season, Trickett has thrown 18 touchdowns, seven interceptions and 2925 yards. Trickett is undersized (6-foot-2, 186-pounds), but his toughness and accuracy (he's completing 68% of his passes) might draw some interest from NFL teams picking in the later rounds.

NFL.com's Charles Davis writes that "there's no denying that Trickett is a tough player who bounces back from big hits and makes plays."

This season, Trickett is 218-for-319 for 2,753 yards, 17 touchdowns and five interceptions. While Davis praised Trickett's toughness, he also cited that Trickett's size will be a concern when it comes to draft possibilities. Trickett measures 6-foot-2, 186-pounds. The biggest knocks on Trickett come Draft Day will probably be his stature and the possibility that, as Davis notes, Trickett might just be a system quarterback. He's a possible late-round selection.

West Virginia redshirt senior QB Clint Trickett completed 21-of-30 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 34-10 win over Oklahoma State.

Outside of a sluggish second quarter, the Mountaineers controlled this game, so they just needed Trickett to be efficient and not make a big mistake. The signal-caller complied, a big reason why West Virginia didn't turn the ball over this afternoon. The 6-foot-2, 186-pound Trickett is 218-for-319 for 2,753 yards, 17 touchdowns and five interceptions on the season.

NFL media analyst Bucky Brooks wrote that West Virginia redshirt senior QB Clint Trickett "might be the most dangerous player in college football as the director of the Mountaineers' fast-paced offense."

"Trickett is not a prototypical NFL quarterback," Brooks wrote, probably because the WVU prospect is short and slight, his thin frame appearing immune to muscle. The 6-foot-2, 186-pounder is 197-for-289 for 2,525 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions on the season. We don't love his dimensions either, but believe Trickett could sneak into the late rounds as a career backup due to his accuracy and toughness. "Given his poise, composure and production against a top team [Baylor] with so many distractions around him, Trickett deserves recognition for his efforts," Brooks wrote.

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler calls West Virginia redshirt senior QB Clint Trickett a "later rounds" draft selection and notes that he "has a much better chance of getting drafted now compared to before the season."

"Despite his success, Trickett's transition to the NFL will be a struggle because of his skinny frame and inability to add muscle mass. That lack of growth potential likely limits his draft potential to the later rounds, but he has a much better chance of getting drafted now compared to before the season," Brugler writes. The 6-foot-2, 186-pounder is 197-for-289 for 2,525 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions on the season. While Trickett's arm strength and size are a concern, his ability to be accurate with the football and poise in the pocket, helps his stock.

West Virginia redshirt senior QB Clint Trickett's "downfield touch and pocket toughness were the big differences" in Saturday's win against Baylor, according to CBS Sports' Dane Brugler

"Trickett outplayed Baylor's Bryce Petty," the analyst added. We'd agree. Trickett completed 23-of-35 passes for 322 yards, three touchdowns and an interception to lead the Mountaineers to the victory. The 6-foot-2, 186-pounder is 197-for-289 for 2,525 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions on the season. He doesn't have the size or arm talent to go early in the draft, but he's got enough accuracy and poise to be considered later on as a long-term backup.

West Virginia redshirt senior QB Clint Trickett completed 23-of-35 passes for 322 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Saturday's 41-27 upset win against Baylor.

It was his eighth-straight 300-yard game, a streak that stretches into West Virginia's last contest of 2013. Trickett is a little short and thin for the NFL, and he doesn't have a big-time arm, but he's improved dramatically in one year's time. He's accurate, and he confidently manages the pocket. Overall, the 6-foot-2, 186-pounder is 197-for-289 for 2,525 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions.

West Virginia redshirt senior QB Clint Trickett completed 28-of-44 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 37-34 triumph against Texas Tech.

For the first time in three games, Trickett declined to throw an interception. He's exceeded 300 yards in each of the club's first six games. Overall, the 6-foot-2, 186-pounder is 174-for-254 (68.5%) for 2,203 yards, 12 touchdowns and four interceptions. Trickett "doesn't have the body type that scouts seek at the position, but his confidence and accuracy are much improved from a year ago," CBS Sports' Dane Brugler wrote last month.
