Penn State senior RB Bill Belton "flashes next level talent," writes CBS Sports' Dane Brugler.
"Stuck behind Zach Zwinak on the running back depth chart, Belton isn't a well-known name outside of Big Ten country, but he is a valuable piece to the Penn State offense and flashes next level talent," Brugler wrote. Belton enters 2014 as the thumping Zwinak's backup again, giving the Nittany Lions a classic thunder/lightning combination. "[Belton] is light on his feet with elusive moves and the change of direction ability to break ankles with his jukes," Brugler wrote. "Belton creates burst quickly and squirts through tiny creases, but doesn't offer much of a power element with limited size and strength to break tackles. While willing in pass protection, he struggles to be a consistent factor in this area and there are some durability and workload concerns due to his limited frame and growth potential. Although his name probably won't show up among the starters this season, don't overlook Belton when he enters the game as he adds juice to the offense." Mon, Aug 4, 2014 09:03:00 PM

Penn State sophomore RB Bill Belton was among five Nittany Lions listed as probable for this week's game against Illinois.

Running back Derek Day, defensive lineman Sean Stanley, linebacker Mike Zordich, and tackle Donovan Smith were the other listed players listed as probable. Belton opened the season as the team's starting running back before going down with an ankle injury, so we expect him to regain that spot upon his return.

Penn State sophomore RB Bill Belton is out for Saturday's game against Temple with an ankle injury.

Tackle Donovan Smith (ankle), defensive end Pete Massaro (knee, shoulder), and defensive end Sean Stanley (back) are also out. Belton would be the Nittany Lions top rusher but he has missed a large portion early this season due to injury. Junior Curtis Dukes could see the most touches in his absence.

Penn State sophomore RB Bill Belton remains day-to-day with and ankle injury that held him out of last week's game.

Belton was listed as the team's starting running back out of camp, but has missed time since the opener. As the starter, Belton finished with 13 carries for 53 yards against Ohio. It is definitely a situation to monitor, as the Nittany Lions will likely want to have the ground game working against a time-eating Navy squad.

Penn State sophomore RB Bill Belton is officially listed as questionable for Saturday's game against Virginia with an ankle issue.

Head coach Bill O'Brien said if the running back does not practice by Thursday or Friday, he will not play. As the starter, Belton finished with 13 carries for 53 yards last week against Ohio. Redshirt junior Curtis Dukes would likely fill in if Belton misses time.

Penn State head coach Bill O'Brien announce that sophomore Bill Belton will start at RB for the Nittany Lions.

Belton will get the call to replace departed junior Silas Redd, who transferred to USC. The sophomore only received touches in the Nittany Lions final three games of the 2011 season, totaling 65 yards on 13 carries, mostly out of the wildcat formation. O'Brien added that Belton has "definitely cemented himself as the starter" but others will certainly play.

With Silas Redd transferring to USC, Penn State sophomore Bill Belton sits atop the Nittany Lions' depth chart at RB.

The former wide receiver has big shoes to fill. Belton managed 65 yards on 13 carries, mostly from the Wildcat formation, last season to go along with one catch. The outlook is bleak for Penn State's offense in 2012.

Bill Belton proving to be a good fit at running back.

Belton was a running back in high school, a receiver during his freshman season with the Nittany Lions and now appears to have a nice opportunity at running back. Belton, who was the quarterback in the Wildcat formation PSU unveiled under interim coach Tom Bradley at the end of 2011, ran for 50 yards on 7 carries in Penn State’s spring game. Belton was 13-65 rushing in the Wildcat last seaosn.
