Oregon State sophomore RB Storm Woods sat out practice on Wednesday with a tight hamstring.

This was Woods' first missed practice of fall camp. "Hamstrings are funny," head coach Mike Riley said when asked for a return date. "Your guess is as good as mine." The redshirt sophomore has a hold on the starting job with Malcolm Agnew transferring to another program. He rushed for 940 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2012.

Oregon State freshman RB Storm Woods missed Monday's practice but is expected to play Saturday against Arizona State.

Woods is battling a bone bruise, knee strain and sprained ankle that have dogged him for a few weeks. "I'm going to have to rehab my butt off to get back, and I plan to do that, too," Woods said. The freshman has rushed for 540 yards and six touchdowns on 4.6 yards per carry.

Oregon State freshman RB Storm Woods was limited in practice on Tuesday while his left knee remained wrapped.

Woods is the team's leading rusher through three games, totaling 287 yards on 56 carries and two touchdowns. The Beavers have a handful of capable runners if Woods can't go, including sophomore Malcolm Agnew, but the program's offense has seen a large step forward in 2012 partially due to the freshman's ball carrying skills.

Oregon State head coach Mike Riley announced Friday that redshirt freshman Storm Woods will start at RB for the Beavers.

Woods beat sophomore Malcolm Agnew for the starting role. Both backs looked excellent during offseason activities, and Agnew even rushed for 326 yards while being featured in two games last year, but recurring hamstring issues likely played a part in the decision to go with the redshirt freshman. Still, the Beavers have a multitude of young talent at the position and it will likely carry their offensive production.

The Oregonian's John Hunt crowns Oregon State redshirt freshman RB Storm Woods as the "budding star" in the Beavers' backfield.

Hunt says Woods showed "power and speed and determination" during spring practice and athough he doesn't fit a mold quite like former Beaver runners, "he did show the ability to be an upper-tier Pac-12 running back." Woods has stiff competition at the position from sophomore Malcolm Agnew, who rushed for 326 yards in two featured games before suffering from recurring hamstring injuries, and freshman Chris Brown who offers a speed element.

Among defensive players, Storm Woods is the Beavers’ most explosive running back.

Coach Mike Riley will wait until a couple of weeks into fall practice before publicizing who the No. 1 running back is. Ask some of Oregon State’s defensive players and it becomes clear that Woods is that player. Impressive all spring, Woods has been battling Malcolm Agnew for the lead role.

Storm Woods is in tight competition with Malcolm Agnew for the starting running back spot.

Woods is a redshirt freshman who has been very impressive this spring is running neck-and-neck with Agnew and providing a nice situation for coach Mike Riley. Agnew, who will be a sophomore, ran for 223 yards in the Beavers’ opener last season. Injuries limited his playing time the rest of the way, however, as he ran for only 200 more yards. Riley should be able to look forward to 2-3 years of Woods and Agnew together.
