Michigan State senior CB Johnny Adams is unlikely to play in the team's bowl game against TCU due to a turf toe.
"I do not expect Johnny to play, to be honest with you," Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio said. "You always hold out hope that he may play, but I just don’t know. We’ll have to see come game time, but my expectations are that (he won’t)." Adams seemed close to returning to practice just a few days ago, but his activity has been extremely limited. Michigan State CB Johnny Adams will attend the Senior Bowl.

Adams has split some evaluators, likely because he projects best to a zone scheme. His man techniques will be tested during practice in Mobile, especially in one on one drills. It is too early to project where he could be selected.

NFL Network's Bucky Brooks notes that NFL Scouts "appear to be cooling" on Michigan State senior CB Johnny Adams.

Brooks explains that Adams "entered the season with a reputation as a solid all-around corner with the skills to thrive in a man-to-man or zone-based systems." However, now there are worries if he has the speed and technical skills to win in individual matchups. Brooks adds that one AFC personnel member "would have a hard time putting him in a division that features big, physical receivers, due to his less-than-ideal physical dimensions."

Johnny Adams could be more than a standout corner after showing big-play ability on the other side of the ball during the Spartans’ spring game.

Given the Spartans return very little of their receiving corps, having Adams play a little at that position might be more than window dressing during the spring game. Coach Mark Dantonio will have a better idea as to whether Adams is truly needed on offense come August when everybody is on board for preseason practice. However, there is no doubting Adams’ athleticism and what he could be bring to the table as at least an occasional two-way player. The senior-to-be returned one of his three interceptions last season 86 yards for a TD.
