Ravens selected Ohio State DE John Simon with the No. 129 overall pick.
Simon (6-1, 257) — referred to as the "heart and soul" of Ohio State's defense by Urban Meyer — was a three-year starter for the Buckeyes, racking up 43 career tackles for loss and 20.5 sacks. He ran 4.62 at OSU's Pro Day. NFL teams don't love short, stubby pass rushers, but Simon is built like James Harrison, with a similar non-stop motor and offers plus athleticism. He'll struggle for snaps along the Ravens' loaded defensive line as a rookie, but is an intriguing developmental prospect. Sat, Apr 27, 2013 01:46:00 PM

There are "huge splits" among teams and league evaluators on Ohio State DE John Simon, according to NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah.

"Some teams like him in the 2nd rd, others think he's a late round guy," Jeremiah tweeted. Simon was miscast as a stand-up pass rusher at the Senior Bowl and struggled mightily in coverage. However, his motor is non-stop and Simon even won as an interior rusher, which the NFL covets.

Ohio State DE John Simon ran a 4.62 forty and completed a 34 inch vertical jump during the school's pro day.

Simon also registered a 10'1" broad jump, 7.10 second three cone, and a short shuttle time in the 4.20s. He was put through linebacker drills and caught all the passes thrown his way. We like Simon in the early parts of day three due to his motor and leverage advantage as an edge rusher.

Ohio State DE John Simon had "positive" meetings with at least three teams.

Simon told The Lantern's Pat Brennan that three of the teams were the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos. Interestingly enough, the three teams play 3-4 or 4-3 defense, which indicates that some teams view him as a defensive end or outside linebacker.

Ohio State DE/OLB John Simon underwent shoulder surgery two and a half weeks ago.

"Simon injured it during the Central Florida game on Sept. 8 and gutted it out the rest of the season, though he had to sit out the Michigan game," according to the Columbus Dispatch. The same injury cut Simon's week short.

Ohio State DE John Simon will attend the Senior Bowl.

The announcement listed Simon as a linebacker, which is interesting since the Buckeye spent most of his time in college with his hand on the ground. Former first-rounder Shea McClellin went through a similar transition, but had already showed comfort in space. We believe teams can practice multiple fronts, so Simon could see time as a pass rushing linebacker.

ESPN's College Gameday announced that Ohio State senior DE John Simon will miss Saturday's game with a bursa sac injury in his knee.

Simon wouldn't be sidelined with something small, as he is one of the hardest workers on and off the field in the country. This would end the senior's collegiate career, and we hope he is healthy enough to participate in the pre-draft process.

Ohio State senior DE John Simon is a true game-time decision for Saturday's game against Michigan due to an unspecified knee injury.

Simon's injury prevented him from practicing all week and taking part in the senior activities the Buckeyes had planned, but word is that there is no structural damage to the knee. He is coming off one of his best performances, a four sack game against Wisconsin, and Simon would be a big loss for Ohio State's oft-injured front seven.

Ohio State senior DE John Simon accounted for four sacks against Wisconsin on Saturday.

"Motor" and "relentlessness" are oftne mentioned when discussing prospects, but Simon tops the list in both categories. The senior lacks ideal height and length, but he is as strong as an ox due to an incredible work ethic off the field. Expect Simon to be a second day pick in April.

SI's Tony Pauline stated that Ohio State senior DE John Simon is likely to "fall" into this Draft's final day.

It is a bit early for draft selection predictions, but Simon is an interesting case due to his limited frame and length but outstanding motor and work ethic. The senior recorded five tackles for loss in Saturday's win over Nebraska and Pauline thinks a creative defensive coordinator will maximize Simon's ability at the next level.

Ohio State senior DE John Simon has a relentless approach to the game off the field, specifically in the weight room, according to CBS' Bruce Feldman.

Feldman explains that as a 16-year-old, Simon could do 31 bench press reps of 225 pounds, and now at 6'2/270 pounds the defensive lineman completes 38 reps while maintaining a 4.60 forty yard dash. Apparently what Simon lacks in desirable size he makes up for in testing. The Buckeye is a total tweener and should see most of his snaps at defensive end, but Simon's physical approach and non-stop motor are evident in games.
