Titans selected Alabama OG Chance Warmack with the No. 10 overall pick.
Warmack (6-2, 317) made 40 starts for Alabama, all at left guard. He was a unanimous first-team All-American in 2012, blocking out especially well in the run game. Warmack had more trouble in pass pro, surrendering two sacks of quarterback A.J. McCarron as a senior. An average athlete, Warmack ran 5.49 at the Combine with a 1.83 ten-yard split. Best used in a power running scheme, Warmack figures to be an impact drive blocker but may struggle initially in the passing game. The Titans brought in Andy Levitre during free agency, but Warmack solidifies the right guard spot due to his mauling style. Thu, Apr 25, 2013 09:27:00 PM

Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew says rookie cap makes it sensible to take a guard high in the draft.

"I think if you go back and look five, six years ago with the way the rookie contracts were structured, the idea of taking a guard that high just made no sense at all," Mayhew said. "I think, if ever there was a time for a guard to go early, it would be this year with the caliber of the two guys that are coming out and with the way the rookie contracts are structured right now." This makes a lot of sense and we agree with him. The only question now is who will go first: Warmack or Cooper? We like Warmack.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen tweeted Alabama G Chance Warmack "won't" fall to the Panthers at No. 14.

The exact quote is, "You can always hope, won't happen." We are a bit surprised, however, Warmack seems to be a great fit for the Titans at No. 10. Trades are always possible, but Warmack and Cooper could go much earlier than most guards.

Draft insider Tony Pauline notes that the Giants "would love the opportunity to select him as they feel he’s a great fit for their system."

"Moving towards the draft it seems one of the Giants early targets, Warmack’s teammate D.J. Fluker, will be out of reach," Pauline writes. It isn't in the Giants' nature to draft offensive linemen in the top two rounds, but we won't rule out these two prospects. Defensive line might be more likely.

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah tweeted that he grades Alabama G Chance Warmack and UNC G Jonathan Cooper over David DeCastro.

At this time last year, some were suggesting DeCastro as a top 10 selection due to his "safe" evaluation. Warmack and Cooper have received the same buzz this year, but project to different kinds of offenses. Instead of both lasting past the 23rd pick, Warmack and Cooper could find themselves in the top 20 area.

National Football Post's Dan Pompei writes that an NFC personnel man told him that Alabama G Chance Warmack and UNC G Jonathan Cooper are "two different animals."

"Cooper and Warmack are two different animals," the personnel man said. "It depends what you are doing offensively. Cooper is an elite athlete, great in space, but a little undersized. Warmack is big, strong and physical, a close quarters mauler. Both are really good. I’d go with the North Carolina guy. He’s pretty unique." We think Warmack moves well enough and is a better prospect overall.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports the Detroit Lions could select Alabama G Chance Warmack No. 5 overall.

"Chance Warmack had very impressive visit with Lions. Not out of the question at all Detroit looks at the guard with that 5th overall pick," La Canfora tweeted. This is the first we've heard this sort of news, as the team has largely been mocked cornerbacks and offensive tackles with their pick. Warmack, however, wouldn't be a poor selection because he's the best guard in the draft and arguably the best player.

Alabama G Chance Warmack visited the Lions on Monday.

We doubt Warmack is a viable option at No. 5, but if given an offer they like the Lions could obviously trade back and target the mauling guard. There was not a more consistently dominant draft-eligible player in 2012, but some have suggested Warmack could battle weight issues throughout his career.

ESPN's Adam Schefter said he would not be surprised if Alabama G Chance Warmack is still available at pick No. 18.

"I know most people don't believe that will be the case, but it wouldn't be completely shocking based on some of the whispers around the league," Schefter writes. Many have linked Warmack to the Titans at No. 10 or the Panthers at No. 14, but the same thought process took place last season with David DeCastro, who lasted until pick No. 24.

The Sideline View's Lance Zierlein is "not buying into some of the overall ratings" he's seeing on Alabama G Chance Warmack.

"If you are looking for a power player at guard to help move guys off the line of scrimmage then Chance Warmack is going to be your guy," Zierlein writes. "Warmack plays with a good pad level and has the type of thick trunk you would expect out of a power guard." Zierlein added that Warmack has fairly decent feet for a man his size, but chose to list Jonathan Cooper as the top guard.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban says G Chance Warmack has "rare commodities" at his size.

"I just think that Chance has a unique skill set and he's got really good size, he's very powerful, he's athletic, he's got good feet, he can pass block and he can get moving in the run game," Saban said. "I think people that have his kind of balance and body control and the kind of athleticism that he has at his size are rare commodities. Everybody knows that those guys play 12, 14, 15 years. I think Chance has a chance to have that kind of career."

The NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah says there is "a strong possibility that Chance Warmack won't be the first guard selected in this draft."

The other option is UNC's Jonathan Cooper, who has also been taking snaps at center. The two are different types of interior lineman, with Warmack winning with a mauling style and Cooper shining when asked to block on the move. Expect both to be first-rounders, and potentially top-20 picks.

An anonymous scout said Alabama OG Chance Warmack "scares the hell" out of him because he's "not real bright".

"They tell you he can't play more than one position and you have to be careful in games what kind of adjustments you make," the scout said. "Not a real bright kid. He kind of reminds me of (Seattle's James) Carpenter. You see stuff that's impressive, then later in the game he starts to fade. For me, a guard has to be perfect to take in the first round. Because how much difference is there in that guy and a guy you take in the fourth?"

Tennessee Titans GM Ruston Webster says he's not against drafting an OG in the first round.

"We want to improve our OL and overall defensively," Webster said. The Titans are selecting at No. 10 and will likely have a guard of their choosing. Our top guard is Chance Warmack, who will likely be available at the Titans' pick.

Alabama G Chance Warmack measured in at 6'2/317 pounds at the NFL Combine.

Warmack also checked in with 34 6/8-inch arms, which is more than enough. NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah says Warmack's size was "smaller than expected" but we don't think that is such a bad thing. He will draw the best grade in this draft, but is a fringe top 10 pick.
