Lions selected South Carolina DE Devin Taylor with the No. 132 overall pick.
Taylor (6-foot-7, 266) logged 18.5 sacks, 35 tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles during his four-year Gamecocks career, bookending Jadeveon Clowney in his final two seasons. Taylor showed freakish straight-line athleticism with a 4.72 forty and 1.59 ten-yard split at the Combine, but he is painfully tight in the hips and a better athlete than football player. Taylor may need to adjust his game in the pros, focusing on power rushing. The Gamecock's length and straight-line speed should come in handy in the Lions' wide alignments. The NFL Network's Charles Davis signaled out South Carolina DE Devin Taylor as a player he is excited to watch during the Combine.

Davis was very impressed with Taylor during the East-West Shrine week and believed he "opened up some eyes." We are worried Taylor might be tight in the hips and his long arms may prevent a strong display of strength, but he has a frame NFL teams' covet.

According to SI's Tony Pauline, South Carolina DE Devin Taylor had a "terrible day" at East-West Shrine practice Tuesday and appears to have regressed since a promising start to his college career.

Per Pauline, Taylor was "handled at the point" by offensive linemen "down to the small-school blockers" and "gave the impression his best football is behind him." Rotoworld's Josh Norris is at the East-West Shrine and didn't think Taylor was quite as bad as Pauline portrays, but it's notable nonetheless. A first-team All-SEC pick as a sophomore in 2010, Taylor hit a wall thereafter and managed just 8.5 tackles for loss and three sacks as a senior in 2012.

South Carolina senior DE Devin Taylor has been invited to the Shrine Game.

Taylor received a lot of attention this offseason due to his desirable frame and time spent playing with former first-rounder Melvin Ingram and potential future top pick Jadeveon Clowney. We feel the senior is a bit tight and needs to add weight to transform into a power rusher, but the E-W Shrine is a good stage for Taylor to show off his skills.

SI's Tony Pauline projects South Carolina senior DE Devin Taylor as a 3rd-round pick, but says he could move up draft boards this season.

Taylor was once a highly regarded defensive end prospect, but a subpar 2011 season hurt his draft stock. After breaking out with a 46-tackle, eight-sack season in 2010, Taylor notched just 37 tackles and five sacks for the Gamecocks last year. Pauline said the senior "displays a variety of skill as a pass rusher, run defender as well as the ability to play in space." We think Taylor is currently more of an athlete than a football player, and will need to improve his strength, specifically on first contact, in order to reach that early round potential.

South Carolina senior DE Devin Taylor (6'6/267) continues to add mass to his growing frame while keeping the same athleticism he showed as a 215 pound high school track athlete.

Taylor has started 32 games in his career, with 27 tackles for loss and 15.5 sacks. Locked in to the full-time end position opposite sophomore Jadeveon Clowney, Taylor will have plenty of opportunities to shine. There is not doubt he is an explosive athlete, but Taylor needs to show off a more mature and refined game during his final collegiate season.
