Ravens selected Elon WR Aaron Mellette with the No. 238 overall pick.
Mellette (6-foot-2 3/8, 217) was extremely productive at D-IAA, finishing his career with 304 catches, 4,254 yards (14.0 YPR), and 44 touchdowns. Although not overly explosive, Mellette is a smooth operator with plus athleticism and route-running chops. He ran 4.54 at the Combine with a 1.56 ten-yard split and a 10-foot-3 broad jump. Mellette only did nine reps on the bench and will have to add strength to defeat NFL press coverage. The Ravens have an opening at receiver opposite Torrey Smith, so we wouldn't rule out Mellette challenging for rookie-year snaps if he has a big camp. Sat, Apr 27, 2013 07:00:00 PM

Elon WR Aaron Mellette has three workouts scheduled, with the Colts, Panthers and Seahawks.

Ravens beat writer Aaron Wilson notes that the Texans, Ravens, Patriots, and Jets have also shown interest. Mellette was a super productive college receiver who wins by sitting in soft zones and technical route running. He might not be able to consistently separate, so Mellette will have to dominate the catch point. He should be a third day selection.

NFL Films' Greg Cosell is "very intrigued" by Elon WR Aaron Mellette.

"Size, hands, plus athleticism and deceptive movement for a big receiver," Cosell said. He then warned that draft followers will read that Mellette is raw due to his small school background, but that might not actually be the case. We agree, since Mellette's best attributes are his size, route running, and strong hands. However, he might struggle to create consistent separation.

Draft analyst Tony Pauline tweeted that Elon WR Aaron Mellette "looks like he belongs" during Tuesday morning's North practice.

Pauline noted that Mellette is "battling hard." The FCS product wins with his route running and body positioning, since he lacks the same quickness and explosiveness of other receivers on the North roster. Expect Mellette to draw a late second or third day selection.

Elon WR Aaron Mellette has been invited to the Senior Bowl.

Mellette has been incredibly productive at the FCS level and showed very well last season against Vanderbilt's zone coverage. However, he disappeared this season against his top competition contest, the UNC Tar Heels. Mellette's best asset is his route running but evaluators will need to determine if he has enough burst and speed to be more than a possession option.

Elon senior WR Aaron Mellette finally hit his stride in 2012, grabbing 13 catches for 177 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's loss against Wofford.

The only game that Mellette had previously topped 68 yards this season was against West Virginia State. This game was a nice statistical jump for the productive senior, but teams will look back to his week one performance against UNC, where he was easily handled and dropped a few catchable passes.

Elon senior WR Aaron Mellete is this year's top FCS prospect, according to CBS Sports draft analyst Dane Brugler.

Mellette finished last season with 113 catches, 1,639 yards, and 12 touchdowns while having his best game in the season opener against Vanderbilt (11 catches/180 yards/1 TD). Vanderbilt ran a zone-heavy schemed defense, but the performance was certainly impressive. Brugler quotes one NFL scout as saying, "If you're looking for flash and sizzle – Mellette isn't your guy. But if you want production, I think he can be a reliable player at the pro level." We feel former FCS prospect Brian Quick possessed more go-to upside, but Mellette will certainly receive day-two consideration.
