LSU senior T Alex Hurst will be sidelined "for some time," according to head coach Les Miles.
Hurst was not even at Saturday's game against South Carolina after he returned home to take some time away from football. The senior is the Tigers' most veteran offensive lineman, but reports have circulated that he is kind of on odd person off the field and does not make friends easily. Mon, Oct 15, 2012 02:55:00 PM

LSU starting senior LT Alex Hurst was not even on campus Friday and apparently is back home in Tennessee.

Hurst had been rumored to have left the team, but in all likelihood he has taken a few days off to sift through personal issues. The senior would have likely lost his starting job on the left side due to performance, but Hurst's slow feet should only allow him to play the right side anyways.

LSU beat writer Jim Kleinpeter passed along a rumor that senior T Alex Hurst has quit the football team.

"The rumor is he quit the team, but he's a guy who doesn't talk much to anybody, teammates included," Kleinpeter said. Hurst is also nursing injuries, but head coach Les Miles did hint at off fielf issues being a contributing factor for Hurst possibly missing Saturday's game against South Carolina. Senior Josh Dworaczyk would take over at left tackle, and still may even if Hurst returns.

LSU beat writer Glenn Guilbeau suggests that the team should move senior Alex Hurst back to his more natural home of RT over his current spot at LT.

Guilbeau believes senior Josh Dworaczyk would then move to left tackle. We are in complete agreement with Guilbeau here, since Hurst is barely athletic enough to stay on the right side due to slow feet and stiff hips. Dworaczyk, a former guard, may not be much better, but it is worth a shot. Problem is, Hurst has missed time recently due to injuries, a common theme along the offensive line.

SI's Tony Pauline believes LSU senior T Alex Hurst's best position may be inside at G in the NFL.

Every year, a handful of longtime college tackles are forced to make the move inside due to a lack of movements skills, frame, length, or a combination of the three. Although Pauline credits Hurst for being smart and fundamentally sound, he does call him slightly overrated at this point. Hurst has started 24 games in his three years at LSU, mostly at right tackle.

The legendary Phil Steele has included LSU senior T Alex Hurst on his first team All-SEC squad.

Hurst is certainly one of the most experienced offensive linemen in the SEC, but junior T Chris Faulk has consistently drawn more praise in recognition circles. At 6'6/340 pounds, Hurst certainly has a massive right tackle frame and prefers to use that length to keep distance between pass rushers rather than latch on and engage. Also, Hurst's movement skills, or lack thereof, match his frame as well. The other tackle on Steele's first team is Alabama's D.J. Fluker.
