Jets selected Missouri DT Sheldon Richardson with the No. 13 overall pick.
Richardson is a high-upside prospect, but it's a head-scratcher. In dire need of offensive weapons and an edge rusher, the Jets go for a three-technique tackle. Richardson (6-3, 294) is an explosive up-field pass rusher with tremendous suddenness off the ball. Perhaps the most athletic interior defensive lineman in the draft, Richardson even dropped into coverage at times for the Tigers. Richardson profiles as a suspect run defender, but could threaten for 5-7 sacks as a rookie. In 24 games at Mizzou, he reeled off 18.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, and four forced fumbles. He ran 5.02 at the Combine with a 1.77 ten-yard split and did 30 reps on the bench. It's an odd fit on paper for the Jets. Thu, Apr 25, 2013 09:48:00 PM

Yahoo! Sports' Jason Cole notes it "increasingly sounds like" the 49ers want to trade up for Missouri DL Sheldon Richardson.

A trade up to pick No. 13 could be ideal for the Jets and 49ers, since the latter would move in front of the defensive tackle needy Panthers. The Jets could then target a quarterback at the end of the first-round. Richardson would line up as a 5 technique end, with plenty of mobility to loop inside or out with Aldon Smith.

The two teams who have shown a willingness to move up are the Dolphins and Falcons, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Miami has also been mentioned to be looking at possible scenarios to move down. This is the second report mentioning the Falcons possibly moving up, and we think the two positions to target would be corner or defensive tackle.

SI's Peter King believes the Falcons could be targeting Missouri DT Sheldon Richardson.

"I think, if the Falcons had their way, they'd come out of the first round with Missouri defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson," King writes. "But I also think it'd be too costly to move up from No. 30 in the first round far enough to get Richardson, who is very likely to go in the top 15." The Falcons could trade up if Richardson lasts past the Panthers at No. 14.

The Cleveland Browns will be hosting Missouri DL Sheldon Richardson on April 9 and 10.

Richardson is an interesting fit for the team because they are a 3-4 defense and in need of pass-rushers. He's a pure three technique as far as position goes but some have hinted at the thought of him playing five technique defensive end. He's certainly athletic and mobile enough, but he's best fit inside.

NFL Network's Mike Mayock has moved Missouri DT Sheldon Richardson up to the No. 2 player at his position.

The move is just up one spot, but only Sharrif Floyd is ranked higher. Utah's Star Lotulelei is ranked among the 3-4 defensive ends. Sylvester Williams, Kawann Short, and Johnathan Hankins round out the top five players at the position according to Mayock.

Missouri DL Sheldon Richardson has a private workout set up with the Cleveland Browns.

Richardson told the media that the Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders, Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks have all shown interest in him as well. When asked about potentially being considered as the No. 1 selection, Richardson said, "Hell yeah, you’ve seen me play here. Am I good enough to be a No. 1 guy? All right then, that’s what I like to hear."

Missouri DL Sheldon Richardson said he met with 22 teams at the combine.

One of the teams he named was the Minnesota Vikings, who he said were "very interested". He added, "They want me to play three technique, some say five and some asked me what I want to play. I put on a lot of weight so I could show people that I can be a heavy defensive tackle. I played light during the season at around 285." He noted he would be going to visit the Vikings April 2 or 3.

Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith suggests that his team selects Missouri DL Sheldon Richardson.

Smith has always been an outspoken teammate and it's no different this time around. The team needs more and better players in the trenches, which Richardson would add as a three-technique. He's very athletic and possesses a non-stop motor.

Missouri DL Sheldon Richardson measured in at 6'2 and 1/2 inches and 294 pounds at the NFL Combine.

An interior defensive lineman under 300 pounds always makes an NFL evaluator take a second look, but Richardson has the athleticism to be a versatile member of a defensive front. The way he flows down the line against the run or fires upfield is reminiscent of a player that is much smaller.

NFL Network's Mike Mayock said on the Rich Eisen Podcast that he believes the 2013 NFL Draft is as deep as it's ever been, but short on "explosive difference makers" at the top.

"I think we've got more depth for the first three rounds than maybe anytime you and I have ever done the draft," Mayock told Eisen. "But I'm not seeing the difference makers at the top end. Every year, we've had a quarterback or a Von Miller. I'm not seeing the explosive difference makers at the top end of this draft and I'm not sure that the fifth pick is that much better than the 20th pick. Or the 30th pick. The good news is I think there's a lot of depth here. And there are a lot of really good football players."

Former NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah says he has "never graded an interior defensive lineman with a better motor than" Missouri DT Sheldon Richardson's.

"He routinely makes plays 20 to 30 yards downfield, chasing down ball carriers," wrote Jeremiah. Richardson's career ended on a low note with the Missouri coaching staff, but he was easily the Tigers' best defensive talent and continually disrupted the backfield with upfield penetration.

After doing tape study on Missouri DT Sheldon Richardson, NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah compared Richardson's playing style to Bills NT Kyle Williams'.

Per ex-NFL scout Jeremiah, Richardson was "fun to watch" on film because he is "very quick" and "plays with a relentless motor." Williams was originally a fifth-round pick out of LSU, but has developed into one of the game's better 4-3 nose tackles. Richardson is more athletic than Williams and, of course, will be drafted much earlier. He's a shoo-in for the draft's first round.

Missouri junior DT Sheldon Richardson will officially enter the 2013 NFL Draft.

This was expected after Richardson was suspended for one of the Tigers' final games of the season. The junior was an absolute force in a handful of games this season, showing the strength to move blockers out of his way along with the foot speed to knife through lanes. We think he has a great chance of being drafted int he first-round as long as potential off-field issues check out.

When asked if junior DT Sheldon Richardson will declare for the NFL Draft, Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel said, "If I was a betting man, I think he'll go."

This decision would be expected, as Richardson was suspended for a game late in the season for unspecified reasons. He has easily been Missouri's best players this season, constantly disrupting plays in the backfield. If everything off the field checks out, we suspect Richardson will hear his name called in the first-round in April.
