Maryland senior SS/LB Kenny Tate is close to returning to the practice field after suffering a left knee injury during preseason work.
Tate has been working with the scout team but head coach Randy Edsall believes he will go full speed leading up to the West Virginia game. The senior has a history of season ending injuries, so hopefully we will see him on the field, and stay on it, soon. Thu, Sep 13, 2012 04:09:00 PM

Maryland senior SS/LB Kenny Tate will miss the next 3-4 weeks after injuring his left knee, according to head coach Randy Edsall.

Not only has Maryland gone through a crazy span of injuries this offseason, individually Tate has only made it through one full season as a starter. Last season, Tate only played in four games before sustaining a season-ending knee injury. It is unclear if the current injury relates to the old one. Tate has lost a step since being named a first team All-ACC member, but he is expected to suit up at the Terrapins Star position, as a hybrid safety/linebacker.

Despite his move to linebacker last season, and continuing to practice at that spot this spring, SI's Tony Pauline projects Maryland senior Kenny Tate as a safety at the next level.

Pauline describes Tate's transition to linebacker last season as "seamless" before a season-ending surgery on an undisclosed knee injury forced him to apply for a medical hardship redshirt and return for one final year. At 6'4/220 pounds, we see Tate as a weakside outside linebacker prospect, but Pauline's projection could be a rover type safety. He considers Tate a third-round prospect heading into the season.
