ESPN's Mel Kiper considers Florida T Xavier Nixon a third- or fourth-round talent.
The reaction form the Gators' beat writers was quite amusing, since they saw Nixon struggle during his entire career in Gainesville. Sure, there were flashes of lower body athleticism and knee bend, but Nixon was one of the most inconsistent players on that team. His weight tended to fluctuate as well. The National Football Post's Russ Lande believes Florida T Xavier Nixon will not be a high draft pick.

Per Lande, "it was clear that Nixon was over-matched athletically playing offensive tackle" in terms of protecting the corner or redirecting power. The Gator took a few snaps at guard during the week of practice and struggled throughout his collegiate career keeping on good weight to deal with counter moves. Still, we think he may have a better pro career than collegiate campaign.

Florida senior T returned to practice on Wednesday after missing the Missouri game with an injured knee.

Nixon, once again, has had an up and down season. He started the year showing promise, stalling many of the defensive ends he faced, but an apparent lack of concentration and effort led coaches to suggest that freshman DT Humphries may take over the starting role. Now, with a knee injury, Humphries did start last weekend's game but Nixon will likely regain that spot.

Florida LT Xavier Nixon will not play Saturday against Missouri.

True freshman DJ Humphries will likely start in Nixon's place. Nixon has had an up and down season, which is nothing new for the senior prospect, so Humphries may take the opportunity and run with it.

Florida senior LT Xavier Nixon may lose his starting job after being benched in favor of true freshman D.J. Humphries in the second have of last week's game against Kentucky.

"We just felt like we needed to pick our tempo up a little bit … and D.J. deserves to play," head coach Will Muschamp said. "He played well. I don’t care what year he is. He plays well and practices well, and he deserves the opportunity." Muschamp declined to name a start for this week's game against LSU, but this is nothing new for Nixon. After being one of the more promising Gators his first few years, Nixon's evaluation has been inconsistency and a failure to keep on necessary weight.

CBS Sports' Rob Rang was impressed by Florida senior T Xavier Nixon in the team's contest against Texas A&M Saturday.

Nixon started the game at left tackle and faced an Aggie team that led the nation in sacks last season. Yes, Texas A&M forced eight sacks in the game, but Rang believes Nixon stood out in a positive way, citing his "strong arms and quick feet." The senior had a promising start to his career, but has consistently had difficulties keeping on enough weight to hold down the edge spot, so keep that in mind as the season progresses.

Despite being one of the veteran members of the Gators' offensive line, senior LT Xavier Nixon's role is still unclear.

After Nixon responded poorly to criticism and failed to retain necessary lineman weight, he lost his starting spot to then freshamn T Chaz Green who played well when called upon. Nixon's career got off to a great start, being the first Florida true freshman to start at tackle in nearly twenty years, but his playing time and effectiveness have seemingly decreased year by year.
