TCU senior WR Brandon Carter is unlikely to play this season, reports the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
TCU head coach Gary Patterson said Carter "probably will not play this year. Academically he will not make it." Carter was arrested in April on possession of marijuana; charges were later dropped. Patterson's response to a question about whether he wanted Carter to stick around the school to regain eligibility was ominous. "No. He has a redshirt year and I think the best thing for him is to get a new start," he said. "It's setting a precedent - you have to go to school." Carter was a five-star recruit who caught 90 passes for 1,312 yards with nine touchdowns over the past three seasons. His NFL prospects are precarious at best. Jul 21 - 7:28 PM

Pot charges against TCU senior WR Brandon Carter were dismissed.

The 21-year-old was arrested April 22 after Fort Worth police pulled him over. The car's passenger and owner, Alexis Harris, had an outstanding warrant and cops arrested the pair on suspicion of possessing less than 2 ounces of marijuana. The district attorney's office released a statement Tuesday saying: "The evidence was insufficient to prosecute Carter. He was merely the driver of a vehicle owned by a passenger."

TCU junior WR Brandon Carter has taken a leave of absence from the football team.

"It was a personal thing," head coach Gary Patterson said. "It has nothing to do with me. It had to do with him personally, off the field, and what he needed to do with his family." Carter missed Saturday's game against West Virginia, and Patterson could not give a timetable for the receiver's return.

TCU junior WR Brandon Carter underwent hand surgery but should be healthy for the school's opener against LSU.

"He’ll be all right. It’s not a big deal," head coach Gary Patterson said. "He’ll play in the ballgame. He’ll be practicing next week. When he can tolerate the pain and catch the ball… once he can do that, then he goes." Carter is the team's leading returning receiver, catching 36 passes for 590 yards and six touchdowns.

Receiver Brandon Carter is among five Frogs that can bust out this season.

Carter more than got his feet wet as a freshman last season, catching 23 passes for 352 yards and 3 TDs. He also averaged 11.4 yards on a dozen punt returns. There should be more opportunity in both areas for Carter thanks to roster attrition and his maturity as a player.
