Steelers selected Illinois CB Terry Hawthorne with the No. 150 overall pick.
Hawthorne (5-foot-11 3/4, 195) started 26 games for the Illini, registering six interceptions, 12.5 tackles for loss, and two pick-sixes. He was highly regarded before a disappointing senior year, along with the rest of Illinois' defense. Hawthorne ran 4.44 at the Combine with a 35.5-inch vertical and is fluid in the hips, so the tools are there. Hawthorne is also not opposed to getting physical. It's a area of need for the Steelers with Ike Taylor entering his age-33 season and Keenan Lewis in New Orleans. Sat, Apr 27, 2013 02:55:00 PM

Illinois CB Terry Hawthorne ran an official 4.44 forty at the NFL Combine.

Hawthorne's 10 yard split checked in at 1.51 seconds. Just like the rest of the Illini defense, Hawthorne under-performed in 2012 despite generating preseason hype. He is a talented corner that should be selected in the early parts of the third day.

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler pinpointed Illinois CB Terry Hawthorne as a player who stood out on the field during the first day of East-West Shrine practices.

Brugler also noted that Packers GM Ted Thompson is in attendance. Per Brugler, Hawthorne looked "fluid in his backpedal" and showed impressive "transition quickness" in coverage while "getting physical" with receivers. Hawthorne started 11-of-12 games as a senior, racking up four tackles for loss, one sack, and an interception. Rotoworld's Josh Norris believes Hawthorne is an early third-day prospect who could move up in the pre-draft process.

Despite being taken off the field in an ambulance, Illinois senior CB Terry Hawthorne is fine and rejoined the team on their flight home.

Hawthorne injured his neck on a downfield tackle that actually resulted in him drawing a personal foul penalty. Head coach Tim Beckman later explained that the CT scan came back negative and it appears the entire incident was precautionary. Hawthorne is a member of a criminally underperforming Illini defense, but he is one of the top senior corners in this class.

Illinois senior CB Terry Hawthorne was taken off the field in an ambulance after a collision during Saturday's game against Wisconsin.

Hawthorne lay motionless for quite some time at the end of a play where he delivered a hit downfield. The senior is one of the top cornerbacks in this class, so hopefully the injury ends up not being as serious as early actions indicate.

Illinois senior CB Terry Hawthorne has shown the "shutdown" ability that warrants a first- or second-round projection, according to SI's Tony Pauline.

Hawthorne offers nice size and length (6'0/190) and Pauline even goes as far to call him a "potential number one cornerback" despite many overlooking him on Illinois' prospect loaded defense. The senior defensive back finished last season with eight pass breakups and three interceptions but is most comfortable when asked to get physical with receivers during routes. Problem is, the Illini are known to insert a handful of zone concepts and he shows a tentative nature when closing on ball carriers, but once Hawthorne commits he delivers a jolting hit.
