Patriots selected Marshall WR Aaron Dobson with the No. 59 overall pick.
The Patriots have a terrible track record of drafting receivers under Bill Belichick, but will hope Dobson can be an immediate contributor on the outside. Dobson (6-3, 210) is a long-armed (33") and sure-handed sleeper to make an early impact in the pros. His stats don't jump off the page — his senior-year line was 57/679/11.9/3 — but Dobson did not drop a single pass amongst 92 targets and ran forty times of 4.42 and 4.44 at his Pro Day. Provided he can shake the voodoo of past Pats draft failures, he could make an immediate impact in Tom Brady's offense. Fri, Apr 26, 2013 08:28:00 PM

Marshall WR Aaron Dobson was credited with a drop percentage of zero on 92 targets, according to STATS Inc.

Many thought highly of Dobson prior to the 2012 season, and part of that was likely due to his highlight reel catches. However, the Marshall receiver missed some time due to injury and didn't always make his presence felt when healthy. This statistic point out his consistency on catchable passes, however.

Marshall WR Aaron Dobson recorded a 4.42 and 4.44 forty at the school's pro day.

The Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles were in attendance. Dobson recorded a 4.29 in the short shuttle and ran the three-cone drill in 7.2 seconds. He also put up the bar 16 bench press reps. The wideout made some highlight reel catches and should be a third day selection.

The Sideline View's Lance Zierlein listed Marshall WR Aaron Dobson as a potential target for the Houston Texans.

"I could have plugged Quintin Patton from La. Tech in here, but I think Dobson is the better fit and can be had potentially at the end of the 2nd round," Zierlein writes. "He has great size and I see his skill set being a good fit for the Texans boot-action scheme." Dobson slipped off of radars during the season but seems to be popping back up. ESPN's Mel Kiper recently named Dobson as a sleeper for the first round.

ESPN's Mel Kiper suggests that Marshall WR Aaron Dobson is a sleeper to be drafted late in the first round this April.

Kiper described Dobson as "a guy people are not talking about who could emerge maybe in late first round, or in the second-round discussion." Dobson has been invited to this year's Senior Bowl and will show his wares in Mobile (AL) next week. Injured for three games in 2012, Dobson managed just 57 catches for 679 yards and three touchdowns as a senior. He scored 12 touchdowns in 2011.

Marshall WR Aaron Dobson will attend the Senior Bowl in January.

Dobson is best known for his highlight reel endzone grabs, but he has the vertical speed and ups to be a nice downfield target. One on one receiver and corne rmatchups are among the best drills during the event.

Marshall senior WR Aaron Dobson registered 10 catches for 128 yards against Tulsa on Saturday.

Dobson had a long catch of 31 yards, and despite somewhat of a low year in terms of production, we still consider him the top senior outside receiver. He can really go up and get the ball and consistently makes difficult catches, but Dobson could be a much better player if he did the simple things better, like tighten up his underneath routes.

After sitting out most of the second half against West Virginia on Saturday, Marshall senior WR Aaron Dobson is on track to start the school's game against Western Carolina.

Marshall is calling the injury a slight hip issue. Dobson recorded four catches for 72 yards in his short time on the field and showcased his ability to track the ball downfield and skills to catch passes in traffic. We believe Dobson is the top outside receiver in this senior group, but because of the lack of talent surrounding him, he may continue to be overlooked.

SI's Tony Pauline believes Marshall senior Aaron Dobson could develop into a second receiver at the next level.

Pauline projects the senior as a second- or third-round pick and cites Dobson's sure handedness and physical skills to generate a high ceiling. Dobson's numbers are not outstanding, compiling 668 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns on 49 receptions, but many were highlight reel worthy. The senior receiver class is a bit thin, so with his size and leaping ability, Dobson could claim the top spot among the group.
