Packers signed Colorado State Pueblo DT Mike Pennel.
Pennel (6-foot-4 1/4, 333) was originally a three-star recruit to Arizona State, but got suspended twice as a junior and wrapped up his college career at CSU-Pueblo. He started 10 games for the ThunderWolves, tallying six tackles for loss, three sacks and three forced fumbles. Pennel was lucky to get a Combine invite, where he ran 5.23 and did 23 reps on the bench. Pennel is a space-eating nose tackle prospect who needs to get much stronger in the upper body. Pennel, a JUCO transfer, was held out of Arizona State's game against Illinois due to a violation of team rules. "I’m not lowering our standards, period," Graham said when asked for comment. Even when active, Pennel has not made much of an impact this season, registering three total tackles and one quarterback hurry.

Arizona State co-defensive coordinator Paul Randolph considers freshman DT Mike Pennel a "once-in-20-years football player."

Pennel was a key part of new head coach Todd Graham's first recruiting class and is expecting to make an immediate impact. Standing at 6'5/340 pounds, Pennel certainly has the size of a nose tackle that can plug gaps on the interior. He will challenge senior Corey Adams for playing time.
