Vikings selected Penn State ILB Michael Mauti with the No. 213 overall pick.
Mauti (6-foot-2, 243) returned from a 2011 left ACL tear to earn first-team All-Big Ten honors as a senior. He recorded 96 tackles, three interceptions, and three forced fumbles, before re-tearing the same ACL late last November. He's now suffered three ACL tears in his playing career. The Nittany Lions' middle linebacker may have to redshirt his rookie season. Though never an exceptional athlete, Mauti was Penn State's best defender when healthy. A probable early-round consideration if not for the checkered medical background, Mauti could be a contributor as soon as 2014. Sat, Apr 27, 2013 05:57:00 PM

Penn State LB Michael Mauti has visited the Saints and Steelers.

Draft insider Tony Pauline notes that Mauti has been told by doctors that he could be 100 percent ready for contact by July. When healthy, Mauti was Penn State's best defender, but his history in that area will certainly be red flagged by some teams.

Penn State LB Michael Mauti is visiting the Steelers on Wednesday.

Mauti is a local product and does not count against the Steelers total of 30 in-house visits. The leader of the Penn State defense, Mauti was the team's best player prior to his knee injury. His medical history could be a big draw back for team's, so Mauti will likely be put through the testing ringer during his visits.

Penn State senior LB Michael Mauti sent a handwritten note to all 32 NFL GMs "about how much football means to him."

NFL GMs are reportedly impressed. Mauti was having an awesome senior season before being sidelined with another knee injury in mid-November. This is nothing new for Mauti, who has shown well while on the field but has been unable to stay healthy throughout his career. Despite the concerns, he is likely worth a third day flier.

Penn State senior LB Michael Mauti will miss the team's final game of the season against Wisconsin with a knee injury.

Mauti has a long history of knee injuries, and it is speculated that he tore an ACL last weekend against Indiana. The senior has missed the entire or large portions of previous seasons, so there is a chance Mauti could petition for a sixth season, but his collegiate career appears over. Mauti was having an excellent year and should be at least be a late-round selection even with the injuries.

Penn State senior LB Michael Mauti was carted off the field Saturday against Indiana with an apparent left knee injury.

Mauti has a long history of knee injuries, and what happened today did not look promising. The senior has had an incredible season, consistently making plays by being in the correct position. We hope Mauti passes his medicals during the pre-draft process.

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler stated that if Penn State senior LB Michael Mauti did not have a history of knee injuries, "we'd be talking about him as a top-35 pick."

We considered fellow Nittany Lion senior Gerald Hodges the better of the two linebacker prospects heading into the year, but Mauti has played exceptionally well thus far in 2012. Brugler added that Mauti is "much more athletic than I assumed returning from two knee injuries" and a second-round pick on his board right now.

Penn State has official lost 16 scholarship players to transfer for departure since last March and 11 since the NCAA sanctions were handed down.

Some of the most notable names include junior running back Silas Redd, senior receiver Justin Brown, and linebacker Khairi Fortt. The Nittany Lions did keep plenty of their senior talent, like linebackers Michael Mauti and Gerald Hodges, and defensive tackle Jordan Hill. Still, the team takes a big hit with every injury since their depth is very questionable.

In a change from yesterday, Penn State head coach Bill O'Brien has elected to bring LB Michael Mauti, DT Jordan Hill, and G John Urschel to the Big Ten media days.

Junior RB Silas Redd is not one of the attending players because he is reportedly meeting with USC head coach Lane Kiffin. Mauti has been a vocal leader for the Nittany Lions during this troubling time and took Redd's spot at the event.
