Giants selected USC OLB Devon Kennard with the No. 174 overall pick in the 2014 draft.
Kennard (6-foot-2 7/8, 249) bookended Morgan Breslin in USC's new 3-4 last season, switching from defensive end to rush 'backer and setting career highs in tackles for loss (13.5) and sacks (9). He demonstrated only average athleticism at the Combine, running 4.70 with a 30-inch vertical and 9-foot-5 broad jump. Limited skill-set wise, Kennard lacks ideal burst off the edge but is an energetic, high-motor presence who should become a useful reserve and special teamer. May 10 - 3:41 PM

Date:

USC senior DE/OLB Devon Kennard will attend the East-West Shrine Game.

Kennard and fellow senior Morgan Breslin made the transition to stand up edge rushers for the Trojans this season with solid success. The former has nice size and will likely move back to a three point stance for the all star game. He has register nine sacks this season. USC will face Fresno State on December 21.

USS head coach Lane Kiffin called senior DE Devon Kennard the early defensive MVP during the first week of practices.

The Trojans are in a scheme transition, moving from Monte Kiffin's Cover-2 to a three man front with pass rushing linebackers on the edge. Kennard appears to be starting opposite Morgan Breslin as one of those pass rushers, but the senior was forced to take a medical redshirt last year after tearing a pectoral muscle. The duo has the talent to produce a consistent edge presence.

USC senior DE Devon Kennard will take a medical redshirt for the 2012 season after tearing a pectoral muscle in preseason workouts.

Head coach Lane Kiffin also confirmed that Kennard will return for the 2013 season rather than jettisoning for the NFL. The Trojans expected a lot from Kennard this season, and their lack of depth has significantly shown up, but the senior's absence has opened the door for JUCO transfer Morgan Breslin to shine.

USC senior DE Devon Kennard tore his pectoral muscle during a weightlifting session earlier this week and will undergo surgery in the near future.

Kennard is expected to miss two to three months, if not the entire season, while recovering from surgery. The 6'3/260 pounder recorded four tackles for loss, including two sacks last season, and was slated to start opposite fellow senior Wes Horton. Theoretically Kennard could apply for a medical redshirt this season and return for a fifth-year. Kennard has a history of injuries that required surgery, including a torn ACL in high school, a thumb injury after his freshman year, and torn hip cartilage after his sophomore season.
